Where do I stand?

You cannot lie in the process of obtaining insurance.
Fair enough. :o
Also would effect if you drove to work (commuting).

I recently had best results with directline and they do not feature on any comparison sites. Massively cheaper than competition and I like the idea of retaining NCB if hit by an uninsured driver, although I have not read the small print.

Directline quoted me £2600 on a 1.2 tonight. :o:p

I've been trying to get insurance on a cheap <£1200 Fiesta 1.25 rather than the Clio but the quotes are terrible! Comparison sites throwing up £2.5K to 4K. Guess that's out the window. A Focus was actually cheaper.

can you tell porkie pies as to where your car is registered

do you have a brother/sister/cousin you visit regularly and could reasonably stretch the truth to claim you live with ?

paying those sorts of prices for a 1.2 clio, i'd use every trick in the book to get it down.

Obviously you wont want to tell a complete lie and have your insurance at one of our address' or something, but a little porkie pie about where you technically live wouldnt hurt anybody in my oppinion.

Sorry to bump this annoying thread but obviously my problems haven't went away and I have a question!

Is it a crime to lie about your occupation? I'm a student but work part time, so I've putting 'full time education' down. Would I get my backside well and truly kicked for putting down 'full time employment'? Not sure how it would effect the price of the premiums.

Where's the crime, unless you are officially a part time student? When I was a student, but working part time during weekends and on temporary full time placement as part of my degree, I was down as a full time student.

could you not get the money back from the insurance company which gave you a quote?
unless you sound like a woman, i can't see how you're at fault..

Tried Adrian Flux?

As much as I hate them and would never use them again they always seemed to give good quotes.
Tried them. I almost wet myself when I got the email through, it said '£1235.79' exactly. That was until I phoned them, turned out it was only TPF&T. :p I asked for a fully comp quote and it was over £2k.

Nope, no one near by unfortunately. Closest family members just moved down south.

I'm doing the Pass Plus in two weeks so I've been trying for some quotes with that but it doesn't seem to make any difference whatsoever, no noticeable amount anyway.

Question: Are you given a no claims bonus with TPF&T?

Need some advice ocuk!

Before I start, I know I'm incredibly stupid and naive!

I saw a car I liked for a price I was prepared to pay, hunted the net for days on end looking for insurance and managed to find a quote at just over £1K, my cheapest yet. So, I went to the dealer(Arnold Clark) and after trying out a couple of cars and having a good look around I decided to take the car I liked in the first place. Without any haggling whatsoever, I just wasn't thinking. I signed and put a small deposit down.

Got home and phoned the insurance broker only to find out the insurer thought I was a she. upon correcting she bumped £1k onto the premium.

I now cannot find an affordable quote. Due to me paying my deposit and signing for the car, am I legally required to pay the full amount? Or, will I just lose the deposit?

Really stuck here.

Arnold Clark will refund your deposit. They do not have any conditions attached.

Clio's seem to be notoriously high for insurance?

I'm 18 and just insured a Focus 1.8 TDCi Ghia on my own policy for £2200.

A bit quiet maybe but I don't sound female! I didn't even try at the time tbh, I was so gobsmacked at not being able to get my car.

Arnold Clark should refund the deposit. I put down a deposit at Arnold Clark 2 weeks ago and the salesman was very clear that it is 100% refundable. All of their deposits are.

Insuring a 16v model is well over 2 grand for me, whereas my cheapest quote at £1628 was on an 8 valve model.

Insuring a 1.6 Focus seems to be cheaper than insuring a 1.25 Fiesta.

100. Not a huge amount but it could've went towards a new car.

If they went out and bought a CD player to put in it you'll have to swallow it, but surely they just stuck one in they had lying about and can swap it back out again easily enough?

If £100 is a lot to you, fight it and see if you can get it back. Unless they have actually gone out and bought a CD player for it, then they'll not be out of pocket. Maybe best just to move on though, put it down to experience. Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want btw :)

get something older and cheaper £1kish say and suck up the insurance costs for a yr or two. It will drop if you dont claim or get caught speeding etc.

Also TPFT will defo give you ncb. id go tpft on something under £1k.

Gets you on the road dont it? ;)
