Where do you get your suits from?

Title says it all really - dont care about name brands just something that looks smart. Own a couple at the moment ironically the £100 suit from House of Frasier fits better and looks smarter than a £300 suit from TM Lewin!

Thinking of getting another suit - any suggestions? Depending on the cut of the suit i may have to get it tailored as im rather broad/bit chest but slim with freakishly long arms!

i got mine from tesco - £45, looks reasonable.
tell my customers that we cut costs in every way possisble, if you want me in an expensive suit, you wil pay for it :p
 
slater menswear i got three of them around 100 each and they are tailored to fit and look awsome, i buy everything in there, best menswear shop in scotland. they do have branches throughout britain...
 
£50 for a suit? Are you serious? Most of my ties cost more than that :p

For off the rail suits on the high street, M&S is probably your best bet. Stay away from Next, River Island, Topman, Burton etc.. They will sell you a shocking looking excuse for a suit. It will be shiney, poor fitting, poorly constructed and just a waste of money. It'll also make you look like a mobile phone salesman.

If you want a decent suit, go to your nearest tailor. When peole hear the word tailor they get scared off at the thought of paying big bucks but you'd be very surprised at how reasonable their off the rail suits are priced and they usually throw in alterations for free. If you are feeling flush and are willing to spend 4 figures then look at getting a bespoke tailored suit. Nothing will match the fit or finish.

Definitely have a look at the nearest tailor, you'll get a lot more for your money and they need the business!
 
My arms are also a huge length! Got 2 suites, one from Ciro Citerio that I had to have the sleves lengthened on, and then found one in M&S. was under £100 (cant remember exactly) and its got a nice long jacket with really long sleves. Im 6'3" and it fits me fine! Go there. There shirts also come with uber long sleves for us monkey boys too!
 
Again, I find myself agreeing with Scuzi: once you have a suit tailored from scratch, you never go back [if I may be so trite].

When I first put on a suit that was made for me, I was staggered by just how comfortable it was; something so formal, so businesslike had no right to feel like...well... soft wool pyjamas, I suppose. No stiff or restricted body movement; the whole thing felt fluid.

Suits - especially three-piece - can look utterly fantastic in almost any situation; the trouble is that they're commonly perceived as the business equivalent of school uniforms, something that is worn a little reluctantly/begrudgingly and therefore something that isn't considered to be worth spending money on.

I guess it depends on where you live and what you want, but completely bespoke suits made with good quality wool Worsteds can be had for much less than four figures. For instance, my last suit - from a highly respected Sheffield tailor who uses quality materials [Dugdale Bros. Worsted in this case] - consisted of a long single-breasted jacket [like a frock coat], a waistcoat and three pairs of bootcut trousers for less than £700. Bargain :)

I go to House of Fraser for off the rail suits. They have a good range and prices are reasonable. When I go on business trips to Chennai, Singapore, Thailand etc I get them tailor made for a fraction of the cost, and the quality is superb.
 
I cant wait untill I'm older and in a proper job, wearing a three piece suit!

What scuzi said is spot on. Me and my friends always refer to those type of suits as 'carphone warehouse salesmen' suits because they are so shoddy.

My first suit is a m&s one. A little too wide on the shoulders though, but not sure if its possible to take them to a tailer to get the width reduced.
 
M&S is definitely worth a look. Very good suits for around £120. The criteria you use to buy a suit should depend on what you're going to use it for. I look for something that will last and stand up to public transport - how fine is the stitching, the inner lining, the durability of the cloth. Ignore the 'machine washable' tags on M&S suits - just seems like a gimmick to me.

And yep Scuzi is right - many tailors can be cheaper and better than high street stores, but you have to trust them. Try a few places but don't commit unless you are comfortable they are interested in giving you a good fit. A good tailor generally has more mature sales staff will take their time and won't start by asking "how much you want to spend".

Debbenhams have some nice suits, dont wear a suit though for work, mainly Jeans and T-Shirt with a logo on it. but when i go to my other job that requires a non Casual wear.
 
I also go Burton - well for me prom suit anyway :p

But I tell you where you can get a suit thats much better quality and cheaper then anything you can buy in shops in Great Britain - India. Thats what me mates from working at the Marriott said anyway.

Admittedly India isn't as easy to go to as M&S but still :D
