Yet again I see something about a particular game, a bit of DLC I have missed or a mod and think I fancy playing that again.
This is where the not so fun kicks in which is trying to remember which launcher I need.
I which to reinstall Skyrim but I just cannot find it.
Is there some black magic I can perform to reveal where it is or what I need to install first?

This is not the first time this has happened and in the past I have just given up but I think a resolution to this mystery is needed.
It would be useful to have a list of games and what launcher is needed on my PC.

Do you not have email receipts of games you've purchased on Steam, etc. you can search to see?

Though maybe not so useful if you've redeemed via entering a code via a bundle or purchased elsewhere, etc.

Great suggestion and I have indeed found the game in my purchase history but that is as far as I get, it is no longer listed in Steam store, I am looking for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary or in my library?

Does it not show in the list in your library in Steam if you unselect the blue play icon "show only ready to play games" ?

(It should be listed under T as the entry starts with The Elder... at least on mine).

Cannot find the 'Blue play icon.'

And not listed under T either.

There is a small round button at the top right of the Steam library games list if you have the same UI setup as I'm using - when it is highlighted in blue it only shows games which are ready to play. Beside it there is a clock icon used to filter by recent activity.

Ah ha, found the button but in my case it is grey not that I needed to click on it as all my library shows except for hidden but it is not there either.
It looks like I will need to buy it again as it is not even listed under my profile which contains 350 games.
Not sure I want to play the whole game again though.
Another one of lifes mysteries. :D

Make sure it isn't hidden or out of expected order by one of the other filters. Sometimes Steam library does odd stuff :s

Usually still shows in your library unless there is a legal reason for its removal, etc. or annoyingly occasionally a publisher "sunsets" their game making it unplayable and removed from the library (I never buy games by that developer/publisher again).

I still have games like Test Drive Unlimited 2 in my library despite it being removed from the store.

Just looked on Reddit on someone who had a similar issue and someone validated his result, might be worth a punt:
In settings > downloads> clear your download cache. This will make you log in to Steam again. Once I did this my recent purchases were available for download and my missing games were present again.

How about just going through the store and looking on the games page, look at any of the options including dlc e.g. special edition etc and see if it says you own and try to install from there of it gives you the option.

Thats the first thing I looked for it but the game I bought Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary is no longer listed in the store what is listed is the Special Edition.

Unfortunately that did not work, but I see I am not alone in having games go missing from Steam.

According to some people if you still have the key for it you can add/redeem it on Steam again.

Looks like you aren't alone in it disappearing that is kind of bad.

EDIT: Looks like everyone who had the LE edition had it replaced by the special edition intentionally.

If you buy through Steam you don't actually get a key so that will not work unfortunately.
You can pick it up for a little under seven quid so may just buy it again.

I edited my post above - looks like they intentionally swapped the LE edition for SE edition on people. So you probably have to buy the base game + DLCs again to get the LE back so to speak.
I have sent a hep request to Steam and I await their answer. If I do decide to buy the game again I will not be paying the thirty quid Steam want when I can get it for less than seven elsewhere.
