...when Princess Diana died? Cleaning buses in a depot as it was Sunday morning if I recall.
...when Jacko died? Don't know don't care
...when ding-dong the Witch is dead? as above
...during 9/11? Sitting at work in the passport office, lots of crazy stuff happening we got off early due to security concerns.

1999 eclipse I was at home and watched it through the dark shades I think newspapers were giving out in the garden

Millennium I was at a family members house party somewhere in loughton, drunk

Princess Diana I was at home, I saw it on the news in the morning and went up to tell my mum as she loved diana. I also remember going in to London where my auntie lived and we placed flowers outside Kensington palace, we also seen her funeral go past.

Jacko, can't remember this too much I think I watched it on the news whilst browsing ?

Ding dong ?

9/11 I had come home from I think school or my first year in college and my dad was staring at the screen in disbelief and said this is going to cause big issues in the world. I watched on the news as the 2nd plane hit and the towers fell.

I was working, in practice, when the radio made an announcement and then stopped the talking and went to full music rotation...during 9/11?

Eclipse: Not sure. I wasn't all that interested (age ~17 at the time)

Millenium: Absolutely wrecked in a local night spot, The Warehouse, swinging a bottle of something colourful around in the air before, as vague drunken memories suggest, copping off with a nice girl I worked with in my part time supermarket job.

Diana: in bed. My sister came in in the morning and said "the Princess of wales is dead". "Which one's that?" was my reply. Wasn't too bothered by it at the time. I'm still not, but at least have some empathy for her kids - at the time it didn't really register. I was fairly young.

Jacko: can't remember. Though I do remember being a little sad about it, and watching the happenings quite closely.

Thatcher: Dunno.

9/11: Working a shift at the local supermarket. remember the short drive to work, must have been 10am ish, perhaps an hour later, and Moyles was on the radio - mentioned "what's happening in America at the moment" or something, but no detail and I didn't think anything of it. Manning the cigarette kiosk, some punter said "you heard they're flying jets into the world trade centre?" I didn't really understand what that meant, and again didn't think much about it. Certainly didn't expect to see what I saw on the news when I got home at the end of my 4-hour shift.

...during the 1999 eclipse?
My dads garden.
...the Millennium?
No idea
...when Princess Diana died?
At home in bed
...when Jacko died?
In Turkey in bed.
...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?
No idea
...during 9/11?
Landscape gardening in just outside Cambridge. Could only listen on the radio. When they said the tower had collapsed, I had visions of it taking out half of Manhattan.

Asleep
Drunk
Asleep
Asleep
Asleep
11/9 was weird for me and the missus, we only found out about it on the 12th when we got to zakynthos airport, I guess we were therefore either drunk, asleep, swimming or something else....

Where were you when...?
...during the 1999 eclipse? Outside, watching it.
...the Millennium? Getting retro with Shining Force 2.
...when Princess Diana died? Buying milk.
...when Jacko died? Trying to offer quality IT services to a free provincial newspaper.
...when ding-dong the Witch is dead? Slow day at work.
...during 9/11? Eating cereal, as the news reports poured in.

In bed for most of them, the eclipse was rubbish anyway.

Nothing special seeing the Royal family sending in a hitman either .

...during the 1999 eclipse?

Was 16 working in a DIY shop, shop was quiet so the manager locked the doors and let us watch it

...the Millennium?

Watching the Manic Street Preachers in Cardiff

...when Princess Diana died?
...when Jacko died?

In Zante on a lads holiday, I'd litterally just managed to get tickets to his "This is It" concert the day before

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?

No idea

...during 9/11?

Was sitting in Halfords looking at some car stereos, when the news of the first plane hitting the tower came in.. I remember thinking "that was a bit daft", got home to hear about the second plane, spent the rest of the day glued to the news

Eclipse - Back garden of old house
Millennium - Nans living room expecting the world to end
Princess Diana - When was that? Was I alive?
9/11 - Cant remember

during the 1999 eclipse? haven't got a clue - what day did it happen?

the Millennium? In a Police Control Room directing Officers and waiting for all the traffic lights to fail, cashpoints to go berserk and eject money and waiting for all the drunks to kick off - only one of those happened!

when Princess Diana died? In a Police Control Room - directing Officers and then driving home realising that most of the population of the Country hadn't yet woken up and didn't even know she was dead - that was quite an odd feeling.

when Jacko died? Again don't remember wasn't a fan.

when ding-dong the Witch is dead? Again, don't remember

during 9/11? Err bit of a theme going on here :) In a Police Control Room, directing Officers and then having one of them come in and tell me to pop into a nearby Refs room. When I walked in half the Police Station was there watching what I thought was a film on TV, saw the first plane hit in a replay and said "** Fully star swear words - EVH ** Hell" when I realised it was real. Quite a few Bosses turned round to me and said "we said that as well".

I try to stay out of Control Rooms nowadays.... !

Everybody went outside at work

...the Millennium?
I was gigging in a pub until 5am in the morning and got paid a firtune

...when Princess Diana died?
This was a weird one for me. She had died early Sunday morning and a mate called for me to got to Trentham Computer Fair where I was talking to dozens of people for at least 4 hours. I got home and it was on the TV. My mate knew but hadn't said anything.

...when Jacko died?
Don't care

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?
Don't care

...during 9/11?
I was at work when a mate said something has hit one of the towers. About 20 mins later he said a plane had hit the other tower.

1. Back garden at home, about 17 I think.
2. Night club in Portsmouth
3. Just back from a french holiday on the boat home when i found out. 1996, was about 14 i think.
4. Dunno, didnt care.
5 At work in IBM, inside a windowless building watching it online.

Millennium ... in a data centre monitoring systems to make sure systems were still up (which they were apart from one database box where the dba decided to check if Oracle would restart ok still and bounced the database without considering the application) at an hourly rate which was significantly higher than normal at that time. If I hadn't been then I'd have been at home asleep.

9/11 ... at work. My area was not affected but one of our system teams did have Customers in the towers. I remember a colleague, who was off, phoning me with a PC issue on the way home who had't seen anything on it at all ...

Most of these were when I was very young, so my memory is hazy (we're talking either 7, when Diana died, or 11 with the Twin Towers).

...during the 1999 eclipse?

Ibiza. Remember people making a fuss over it, was too young to be interested really.

...the Millennium?

Round my grandfathers, where all of the family were, cheering throughout the streets. Fun times.

...when Princess Diana died?

Not sure where I was when it happened but I do remember sat in the lounge when it was being reported, knowing it was a relatively big deal, but not really understanding why.

...when Jacko died?

At my parents place with my girlfriend, house sitting.

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?

Not sure what that is?

...during 9/11?

Distinctly remember being in the classroom, year 6, and they came in and told us. Again, not really of an age to understand the greater implications of it, but the memory sticks completely.

...during the 1999 eclipse? I would have been 7 years old, I do remember being at my best friend Jessica's house, and her mum telling us off for looking right at it

...the Millennium? With some family in Birmingham I think, big house party kinda thing.

...when Princess Diana died? '97 so I was 5, so probablt tucked up in bed.

...when Jacko died? Just starting my apprenticeship I believe

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead? Not a clue what that even is!

...during 9/11? At school, year 7 or 8 I think, I remember a girl frommy year running in with the news.
