Where were you when...?

All boring apart from 9/11 for which I was in the air at the time to Vienna for work.
Arrived at customer site wondering why the lazy gits were watching some crappy disaster movie instead of working .... then I noticed the CNN logo in the corner ....

I remember it in college. 14:30/45 or so on a Tuesday and lecturers running about the place in panic then all the students became very concerned wondering what had happened.

...during the 1999 eclipse?

Watching from the back garden

...the Millennium?

At a friend of the families house Millennium "party"

...when Princess Diana died?

At home, I remember hearing the news on the radio but not understanding the significance of the event.

...when Jacko died?

Had a driving lesson that day. My instructor asked me if had been listening to any of his songs / had dug out any CDs, I replied no.

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?

Don't remember

...during 9/11?

Was my second day of secondary school, on the way home when getting off the bus the driver told a few of us that something was happening in New York, but he didn't know what, and we might want to look at the news when we got home. I don't think any of us paid it any attention until we got home and turned on the TV.

I think you're two years younger than me, so you would have been in year 4.

Ah yes. I got that confused with the London attacks I think. Year 4 sounds about right. I remember coming home from school being told about it, having never heard of the twin towers in my life until then.

...during the 1999 eclipse? - Worked nights so probably asleep.
...the Millennium? - Sydney, partying.
...when Princess Diana died? - Wathing it as news unfolded. Was about 3am I think
...when Jacko died? - not important, can't remember
...when ding-dong the Witch is dead? - didn't even know she was dead.
...during 9/11? - getting ready for work so tv was on in background. Had just finished reading a certain Tom Clancy book too in which something similar happened.

...during the 1999 eclipse?

Working at a Government department in central London. We all went out to look at it via bits of paper or something or other. I was under whelmed I recall.

...the Millennium?

I was invited to the House of Lords for a reception before jumping on the, as yet unopened, Jubilee line to the Dome with William Hague for the opening ceremony with the Queen.

...when Princess Diana died?

Travelling from London to Manchester. It was grey, depressing and the radio stations were on an endless loop of sad music in the car. Was horrible.

...when Jacko died?

Can't remember

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?

Can't remember

...during 9/11?

In central London working. I remember my then girlfriend had been advised to leave the building and get out of London but I couldn't get away so watched things unfold in TV in the building I was working.

During the eclipse I was at school.
On the millennium I was at a party.
When Diana dies I am pretty sure I was in bed.
9/11 I was off school and was playing counter strike. I was watching as soon as it came on the TV as I had it on. Saw the 2nd plane hit.:(

...during the 1999 eclipse?
Watching it outside my work building in London Bridge

...the Millennium?
At home

...when Princess Diana died?
Just got in from work and went to bed. I heard it on LBC just as I was trying to sleep.

...when Jacko died?
No idea as it wasn't a memorable event for me. Probably at home.

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead?
Can't remember.

...during 9/11?
At work again in London Bridge. Someone emailed me a photo of the first plane hitting the first tower. No-one believed me until we found a TV and put it on just as the second plane hit the second tower. I remember the BBC website (at least at our work) was unreachable for most of that time which just shows how early the internet was for mass news coverage.

...during the 1999 eclipse? I was working at St Thomas's Hospital in London, we all went outside to watch it. It was weird!

...the Millennium? When the clock stuck 12, I was on the South Bank in London, mullered! I woke up in a friend of a friends flat in bed with 2 girls. Nothing had happened (story of my life!). We all watched The Sound Of Music on the telly and I went home, hungover like a bitch

...when Princess Diana died? I was visiting my parents, and they'd gone to bed, I was finishing a bottle of wine and reading, the TV was on "pages from Ceefax". Then the news started.

...when Jacko died? Can't remember

...when ding-dong the Witch is dead? At work, we had the telly on.

...during 9/11? I'd just finished a night shift and was living in Enfield with my ex. I woke up on the sofa, with the TV on, just as the second plane hit. I thought it was a film. After turning the TV to another channel, I realised it wasn't.

99 ecplise I was watching it from the top of our local hill.

millenium, I was allowed to stay up until 12 when the clock struck (was 14 at the time) then went to bed as it was pointless and boring staying up without the yet to be discovered alcohol.

Princess Di, I remember waking my parents up as I couldn't get anything other than news channels in the place of the cartoons I expected at 7-8am on a sunday morning (I'm sure it was a sunday, might be wrong). When I saw the shock on their faces when they came to see why I was complaining it sank in rapidly.

Jacko? Don't care. Dubious sexual practices.

Thatcher? I remember people being really happy that she was dead purely because of voting principles. Was pleased she got a state funeral just to annoy the same people.

9/11, I remember leaving school in year 11 as normal at 3, by the time I got home at 4 my mum was sat watching BBC news, it was the live broadcast as we only had the bog standard 5 channels. I'm not really sure if it was live or not but I can sort of remember going to get changed and then the second plane hit the towers cos I can sort of remember my mum shouting. I'll look up the times but maybe it was the pentagon one or something.

TBH, that'll be the one that will always stick in my mind. I'll never forget the weeks after and my history teachers glee with the military reaction to afghanistan. I remember to this day his photocopy of a two page spread on 'how a cruise missile works' taken straight from the DM and given as a handout lol.

Eclipse: At work. Being at the top of a tower block, I could see all there was to see.... and it was rubbish.
Millennium: Having it large at a crappy club then on to a session at someone's house. Stumbled home about midday. Probably the last new year's eve I went out. :o
Princess Di: stuck in bed with an epic hangover. Was a Sunday morning IIRC.
9/11: Was at home on my own after work glued to the telly.
Thatcher/Jacko: Meh, not a clue. :/
