Which 1400cc ?

I thought you could strip interiors anyway, depending on class.
You can only fold the rear seats down and remove interior behind the front seats.

They are more in the way of helping the engine breathe better, modifying it would be internal, such as uprated cams, or having the engine bored out etc.
Exactly, engines must stay standard, keep original induction and keep original internal dimensions.

The purpose is to give a mostly level playing field, meaning money doesn't make you the winner. The Lombard RAC runs in this format, using all the old stages they used in the best era of rallying :)

It seems your pretty clued up on the regs, have you not read about the kinds of cars that are coming out on top?

Visit http://www.corsasport.co.uk and search for rally cars.
Like I said, I have been rallying vauxhalls for years (Corsa) and they do very well indeed. Corsasport is full of boy racers and the ones that do comp over there are mostly stage boys, their cars are modified beyond the endurance allowances. I road rally a Corsa but it's also beyond the spec allowed, just fancied something different to be honest. Maybe I'll get a Corsa 16v sport like you say, they are pretty decent, or maybe I could be bashful and get a Tigra, might be nice to use something that others don't perhaps :)

I'm not sure but, I did have one once and it was bloody rapid, same engine as the AX GT iirc. Think they are only 75 bhp ish, not bad though.

I basically need the quickest standard car I can get, also something which will respond nicely to a ecu chip/remap

These requirements are mutualy exclusive when you are talking about an engine in a fairly high state of tune to start with.

The 205 XS or Rallye would be a good choice if you can get a decent one for you budget. A well proven car that is still competitive.

Maybe consider a Rover 200/25/ZR? Quite of few of these on local rallys and they seem to do quite well.

Yes I might well give the 25 and especially the ZR a look, around 100bhp as standard, not sure about the handling but they must be half decent. The 214's are dirt cheap but fairly unreliable (problems ironed out in 25) I actually know (unless it's gone) to a 205 XS, sitting in a drive having been blown up, decent solid shell too, that's got me thinking :)

You don't mention budget but my vote would be a 106 Rallye S1 which is a 1.3 or a 1.4 16V Lupo both are quick and handle well. Chances are you might not die if you crash the Lupo over the 106.

Thanks for ignoring my suggestion :( Lol
Actually I didn't, after you initially mentioned it I had a look around autotrader, by the time I got back it was mentioned again. Sorry about that, no need to take it personally sir, the credit is yours :)

Lupo, never thought of that one, i'll go have a gander.

Swift - Cracking motor these, it was on my list but forgot about that too, my small brain can only take in so many cars in at one time ;)

edit - If it came down to it, how do the newer 106's respond with ecu work?

205 XS would be my choice.

Good car due to it's weight - ie none, and an engine that makes it move. I have the XR version...not sure on the differences.

I'd sat the 205 GT over the XS, I seem to remember them having better carbs etc. and are a 1360cc still.

Only thing against these is they'll squish easier and 'better' than the 106...but you have a darnsite more leg/head room in one though. :)

Although they have no ECU, so it'll have to run stock prettymuch competely.

1400 class record is held by a 205 at our local hillclimb the 1360 version. Not quite sure how its class record but the numbers dont lie !

Engine is the same in the GT as the XS, albeit in a 4 door shell. However the later GT's had Single point injection instead of carbs.
