I currently use XP 32bit, with a view to upgrade to 64 bit due to the fact that i Have 4 gig of ram installed.
I really like XP , and forgot all about that there was a 64 bit verison of it , before this i was set on installing Vista.but now i am not sure.

Is there much differance between 64 bit XP and 64 bit Vista, compatability wise , DX 10 etc and driver support, and program compatability.

And is XP64 support likely to stop in the near future with all support just for Vista

I have XP64 and Vista 64, on different PCs to get the full use of 4gn ram for HD film editing. I only got Vista 64 to get the media centre and TV card support. In hindsight I should have got a second XP64 licence as the availability of 64 bit drivers for my hardware is not any greater with Vista 64.

Unless I need to use the video editing software I boot into Win XP MCE.

I'm toying with the idea of dual booting Vista 64 and XP 64 when I next reinstall Windows?

Best of both worlds then ;)

And when you no longer need XP you can just recover the partion (provided you've installed them both on the same disk...) from Vista :)

Gamer here. Definitely go with Vista x64. Most hardware has decent stable drivers now, especially if you have a pretty recent setup. Games run just as well under Vista as they did in XP, no reason not to use it really.

Slightly OT, but isn't Windows 7 out during the middle of next year? Supposedly.

I know of at least three friends holding out for that before they make the switch from XP :p

I prefer Vista to XP, but at the moment i'm using XP x64.

I got fed up with having to re-activate whenever I changed some hardware. Or changed a setting. Or opened my front door. Or it rained.

XP comes with 5 grace activations. Vista needs a phone call to someone with broken English every time. No thanks.

Are you using a retail or OEM version?

And when I needed to activate it was an automated service no need to speak to anybody. I don't know why people moan about it so much.
