upgrading from a FX 5900XT lol which got 460 3dmark05 lol

which one is best for the money looking at a max of about £300 cheaper the better means i can get better memory..

thanks for replies...

Are you on pci or agp

If pci i would go for the OcUK GeForce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) £281 all in, Thats a great price btw

If its agp then the best card you can get is the XFX GeForce 7800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) £233 all in

i didnt even realise they made agp 7800's but im upgrading to PCX :D thought it was about time lol.. thanks for your halp. is there a thread with some 3d mark scores for that card?

It might make sense to hold off for a week or two (maybe longer, maybe a month) until 7900 is released which should drop prices further, especially seeing as they have ceased production of the 7800's.

Hi there

Let me make note hinting at lower prices elsewhere and requesting competitor details is against the rules and will get you a free bann from the forums. :)

Which 7800 hmmmmmmmmm..... well:
HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB GDDR3 -> £211
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 -> £320

My preference goes here too. The XL's are excellent clockers and personally I feel the better option as against the 7800GT. Then again, this all depends on the price of the 7900GT. The 7900 series is touted for a March 9th release - might be worth the wait as I mentioned above.

Gibbo will the 6800GS be reduced when the 7900 is released, I was thinking of buying a card for about £150 very soon?

Gibbo has been saying for a while now - Nvidia will not drop prices with the release of the 7900 series.

Agreed, the X1800XT especially considering it has more ram & its quicker than the 7800GTX is a good card to get if you can.

Im not 100% on the facts, but i do remember reading that 256mb of ram is good for AA/AF max on anything less than 1600x1200 and the XL will clock to XT levels with a voltage adjustment.
So if you are an overclocked who is not using an uber monitor, go for the XL and clock its pants off. Might need to change the cooler however :)

if he said ive got £200 to spend on a card then yes the xl would be a good choice but he said £300 so in that price range the 7800gtx is the best buy, if he can afford a bit more then go for the x1800xt but the 512mb dont mean squat unless you have a fair size monitor
