Which 7800????

i just wanted to make sure i get the right card when spending all of my savings... im at college and only work in the summer so i dont really have much spare cash.. :D

Check out the guy in the X1800XT @ £199 256MB thread. He got 9000 3DM05 stock and overclocked a good 10100 and then 10600 at top. That absolutely wallops the 7800GT which gets 7500 stock up to about 8500-9000 heavily clocked.

woud this be good if i could get it for around £180

Leadtek GeForce 7800GT EXTREME EDITION

Or is the powercooler X1800XT card the one to go for thats £235?

the XT will be a lot faster...

Well, about 20% faster but then again it costs 30% more.

All round it is the better card and as most people know performance doesnt scale linearly with price (just look at the 7800GTX 512)

The GTX 512 did scale with price almost excactly linearly - it is 28% faster for a 28% higher cost.

But some vendors realised they could charge what they want and so went OT with pricng but it was one of the very few cards to have linear price-performance scaling.

X1900XT-X is faster and cheaper, pricing across the whole board does not scale linearly.

Plus, the 7800GTX 512 right now is about 50% more than a 7800GTX 256 and it was only the right price at launch because the 7800GTX 256 was quite expensive ;)

But I do agree with the vendors overcharging, then again thats the price people payed so thats the price I was talking about.
