Which card do I upgrade to?

38a on 12v rail and it does 465w

Radeon R9-290 - 31A and a 550W psu minimum
Radeon R9-280X - 30A and a 550W psu minimum
Radeon R9-270X - 24A and a 500W psu minimum

GeForce GTX 780 - 42A and a 600W PSU minimum
GeForce GTX 770 - 42A and a 600W PSU minimum
GeForce GTX 760 - 30A and a 500W PSU minimum

might be pushing it with the 760 / 280x / 290 and forget the 770 780

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

Hearing that 290's run hot and are loud I think I'd prefer a 780. (I really don't care about the whole AMD v Nvidia thing).

Which is the best 780 to go for then folks? I see lots of different variations on OcUK.

The MSI tend to be the cheapest, and the EVGA being the dearest, the SC ACX can be had for less than £400, has great warranty support, great cooler and very quiet, the classified being about the best you can buy and most expensive but the SC being the better value out of them both, not sure there is a bad choice tbh

Well it's certainly a lot of money for a graphics card and I have recently upgraded, PC's don't come cheap!

But getting something like a 780 soon shouldn't warrant another upgrade for at least 12 months?

Depends on your requirements, but most people probably won't 'need' to upgrade for quite a bit longer than twelve months - especially coming from a mid range gpu like you are.

Tom you never mentioned what games you will be playing? Resolution of your monitor, settings desired etc.

Because at the moment I'm just playing a huge variety of games... They all run pretty well as it is but when I move to BF4 I know I'll be wanting better performance.

Ideally I want to run most things on full max and I use a res of 1920x1080.

Cheers

Getting a 290 makes far more sense. BF4 - Mantle - AMD. AMD pwn at BF4 and this is before Mantle.

Grab this 290, cheaper than ANY 780, faster than a 780, good cooler, quiet, will overclock like a champ.

If im wrong about any of the above, ill buy you a beer. ;)

I need to be 100% sure that will run with my PSU though. Seems to be a few split opinions here?

Also, that won't bottleneck my CPU will it like the 7850 did with my i3 3220?

No an i5 4650k Haswell will not bottleneck either gpu. The 780 and 290 have similar power requirements, so if one will work fine, so will the other. Anyone suggesting otherwise is talking out their rear end.

Go for the 290. Its cheaper, faster and you want to experience BF4 at the highest settings with the best performance and to do that you'll need a AMD GPU and Mantle.
