The majority of gamers are only likely to use these features on Gregs list.

Nvidia

PhysX
GameWorks

Amd

Mantle
True Audio

Looks a little different. Amd also have TressFx but we all know that's open.

Yes :)

There are things missing from Gregs AMD list, we could go on all day about game specific features, both AMD and Nvidia have them, it does no good to start listing them because inevitably it over complicates it and starts to turn into a Top Trumps of proprietary features and a stalemate at the end of it all.

Its really rather simple, AMD are more GPU for less money, Nvidia are just plain more expensive.

I am not getting sucked into a pointless debate Humbug and have given my experiences. I am not out to convince you or anyone but merely saying what I know and what I found.

That is a rather simplistic viewpoint, and thus it is erroneous in many ways. Money is not the only consideration for graphics cards, as you very well must know. But, anyway, I don't want to start down this route - it would be unfair to the OP to ruin his thread, I've given my opinions and I'll leave it at that.

Come on guys i can't help but feel Vakas is being a little naughty here.

Look this isn't very difficult and i think the OP knows it too. A 290 or a 780 will do the job perfectly. There's no need to stir this crap up again.

Not being mean but do some research and come to your own conclusion.

Sucked in? Greg your a contributor to it.

The choice is very simple unless one wants a specific feature.

The answers he got were very straightforward, the choice in the answers are very straightforward, so some felt the need to complicate it, and as always you end up with a game of Silly Trumps and everyone has a massive headache before eventually coming complete circle in a mass confused state.

Get a 780, it's less hassle and doesn't run mega hot and sound like a leaf blower, black screen issues, dodgy VRAM corruption (two cards), this is from my experience of owning a MSI 290x Gaming. I moved to a MSI 780ti ref which gave me less noise, much lower temps and of course it runs everything that I need still. True, I paid a bit extra (not an awful lot extra actually), but I was prepared to do so to avoid the list of issues that I had with the 290x.

Sometimes needs work to get games working

I do have a chuckle whenever i see someone say this about AMD. Its just not true as ive been using amd for longer than most i feel im fairly knowledgeable on this. Believe me if this was the case, i wouldn't be using them any more. I hate hassle.

Anyway a list of my games that work perfectly on my 290 with no tweaking, and also work perfectly on crossfire with again no tweaking.

BF2
BF Bad Company 2
BF3
BF4
Bioshock 2
Bioshock Infinite
Black Ops
Black Ops 2
Brink
Brothers in arms series
Crysis 1
Crysis Warhead
Crysis 2
Crysis 3
COD the whole series (including Modern Warfare) apart from Ghosts
Dirt Showdown
Dirt 3
Half life 1 & 2 series
Hitman Absolution
La Noire
Left 4 Dead 1
Left 4 Dead 2
Grid 2
Mafia II
Max Payne 2
Max Payne 3
Metro 2033
Metro Last Light
Medal Of Honor
Medal Of Honor Warfighter
Need For Speed Most Wanted
Need For Speed Rivals
Payday
Red Orchestra 1 & 2 series
Resident Evil 5
Sleeping Dogs
Sniper Elite v2
Tomb Raider

The only games that i have issues with, or don't work well with crossfire are... (you'll notice a theme here ;))

Aliens Colonial Marines
Resident Evil 6
Call Of Duty Ghosts - The first ever cod game to work poorly with Xfire

The above are all GameWorks Nvidia titles. So if you go AMD, as long as its not GameWorks then it will work perfectly and without issue more often than not.

Others
Farcry 3 required some tweaking to get it running smoothly on xfire, but worked flawlessly on single card.

I wanted to know other peoples opinions and experiences sometimes reviews don't tell the whole story,

Ultimately, you won't go wrong with either brand, Vakas. I think an easy way of deciding would be to look at the games you play, and then go from there. Some games will run better on nVidia, and with others it will be benefical to use AMD. Even then, it's unlikely you can go wrong as both cards are very fast anyway. Are you going to be bothered if one brand gives you 80fps vs 75 fps?

Personal experience is something else, i tried out the 780 before i ended up with the 290, the performance was pretty lack lustre, it would also choke whenever there was compute rendering going on (The FPS would tank), huge CPU bottlenecking on it, as reference it ran hotter than than my Custom 290 which never gets past 70c and it soon ran into GFX corruption when overclocked, not a nice card at all.

You tried out a 780? Why didn't you give some feedback on it? What make was it? I thought you might have run a bench at least..... Hmmmmm

Must have been a major PEBKAC issue then.

What for? i didn't like it, i felt no need to say i didn't like it, and i didn't need a donation to get it. ;)
