Which Console, Argh!

I have totally changed my preference over the last few weeks.

Personally i am gonna get a Wii this year sometime. The games lineup keeps getting better and better and it being so cheap just makes it the only option for me. Having a high end PC gives me all the top notch graphics i can ever want for and so i just can't justify the price of the 360 or PS3.

However, if i already had a Wii and had the money for a PS3 or 360 i would now say i would go for the PS3. The 360 failure rates have put me right off the console. Sure, it has by far the best game catalogue and the release list for the rest of this year looks exceptional, however, the top games coming to the sustem that i am interested in are either multiplatform titles (CoD4, Bioshock, Asassins Creed, Army of 2 etc.) or are very similar to these games (Halo 3, Too Human etc.), I want more games like Banjo Threeie. The games just don't make up for the hardware issues imo.

If the hardware issue gets sorted by sometime next year and there is a price drop then it could be anyones game. It would be a tough choice between the two, though i think the 360 might still edge it... largely because the controller is far superior!



Basically:
Does the 360 offer enough variety of games for you to warrant the possibility of a hardware failure?

Does Blu-Ray interest you enough right now to justify the exceptionally high price tag of the PS3?

Do the upcoming AAA single player Wii games not do enough to tempt you to get one along with the awesome price point?

Well, im sort of in the position of the OP since I have played on both the Wii, X360 but not the PS3 and i really want to get a console at the end of this summer.

So far, the X360 is winning by quite some margin.

I would say the current, and certainly future catalogue of releases for the Xbox360 far outweigh any risk I feel in my Xbox360 failing. If it did, I'd certainly do that.

If I was to say which one, It would have to be a ps3. Not for the want/lack of games but the shear reliabilty and quietness... But you really need to look at the games I guess. What do you like, Halo or Metal Gear Solid? Forza or Gran Turismo? Quite or noisy? working or not working? .. sorry couldn't help it

Id say PS3 - am really impressed with mine! Blu-ray, sixaxis, wifi, hdmi are just some benefits. Pre November brings Metal Gear, GTAIV, Res Evil, GT-HD.

I don't really understand how this is a question at the moment?

For £230 for a 360 Premium, a vastly superior games catalogue, better looking / better content 3rd party multiplat games (VF5 has mp), a better online service (if you want a global friends list) and a far better 07 exclusive lineup (Mass Effect, Halo 3, Blue Dragon, GTA IV episodes, Too Human, Bioshock, PGR4, Splinter Cell 5) you really can't say no.

At £400 for a PS3 with only 2 exclusive games and a load of promises I can't understand why it has such a dedicated following. Hardware wise it's superior but that's it.

Ask me again after / if some of these promises reach fruition and I'll change my opinion and even get one but to buy one now at nearly double the price with a only a couple of original 8/10 games and a load of bad ports is insane.

I can't see those 4 games being released before November, GTA maybe but the other 3 very unlikely

Personally I'm looking more forward to the likes of Lair and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune rather than the next MGS.

Maybe it's because consumers expect consoles to last longer than x months, and don't expect or want the agro of sending a console back to repair/replacement in such a short space of time? When my 360 broke (DVD tray wouldn't open) I had to travel 10 miles in my time to get it swapped over, at that point I knew that there was no way I was going to keep a console with the possibility that I may have to do this again (and again) within the next 12-18 months.. so I traded it in for a PS3 and am very happy with my decision.

Six of my friends have also done the same thing now for the same reason, which indicates to me that people are not happy to except a flawed product regardless of how much cheaper it is. My last friend I even tried to convince him to keep his 360 as he doesn't have a HDTV but he was having none of it.

I see it no different to if my missus wanted a new hoover, she would demand a Dyson due to it's durability yet it would cost me more than twice the price of a standard hoover, but I know that the addition cost would be worth it in the long run.

Sony to have some more good exclusive games out (looks like sept - nov at the moment), unified friends list, price reduction.
Or Microsoft to fix the TRROD fault and the scratching Disc faults?

My money's on Sony as at least they have admitted there is a problem with not enough games out yet and at the rate they update the firmware who knows when there will be a unified friends list my betting is sept-oct when home is released.
Just a quick note anyone know why Mass Effect has changed its release date till next year now? My 360 owning mate just had a look on line and its been changed to 2008 now.

It really depends on what the main use of the console is at the moment, a lot of people wouldnt want to spend £20-£25 for blu-ray movies, in which case a 360 is a better bet with a vast selection of excellent games, some rather cheap too.

In terms of Hi-Def movie experience though the ps3 is the best all-round solution, and hence better value for money if you wish to invest in blu-ray.

That was just off the top of my head, others such as killzone 2 are looking promising and the ability to play PS2 games is interesting for me also. Atleast Sony are admitting to thier problems while arrogant arses Microsoft are still churning their faulty crap out and not caring.

Microsoft could have resolved the issue's with the 360 in the Elite, they haven't. What will come first? Sony will wait for the Elite to come out and then price drop to combat it as MS need to get this on sale, so have to go first. The ball is in Sony's court here and they could potentionally screw the Elite big time.

Yeah just the problem is there aren't many exclusives for Sony, most of the games are coming out on all platforms.

None of the previous 360 exclusives have excited me apart from GOW, the only others that interest me are Halo 3 (SP) and Bioshock. For me now it's more a case of having something that doesn't break all the time to be honest

True. But then again, I bought the PS3 for games and that's one thing I can't do. If I wanted a blu-ray player I'd have bought a seperate one.
