I was looking into getting a new console for xmas I currently own a PS2, I was wondering if your guys could give me some advice on which would be the best console to buy thats going to be out by xmas or waiting until the PS3 which I think is due out early next year, could you also state a brief reason why you think it is worth choosing one console over the other so I can kind of weight up the pro`s & cons between each one.

Also how do I get internet access via a console I currently have access to the net through my PC via Telewest Blueyonder, is it as sinple as buying a splitter and running an extra cable to the console or do I have to pay Telewest for a second line.

question is - what games do you want to play?

the 2 consoles are soo similar in terms of their actual output capacity so GFX are going to be similar..

do u prefer PS2 gamepad or xbox pad? Do you want GT5, Final Fantasy etc? if not then id grab an Xbox360 on the cheap and be happy with it. If you cant live without GT etc wait for a Ps3:)

Will ps3 be backwards compatible with ps2 games? If so that's a pro for the ps3 unless you're planning to sell the lot.

Yeap it is, also PS games too. And will have PS games available for download and play ;)
Personally, if you like the PS2 game catalogue i would wait, especially if you are not desperate. Or you could buy a 360 just now and when the PS3 is in supply, trade it in against a PS3 if you so desired. Or just have both :D

IMO the PS3 wont be released In europe till around June.

So even if you are a PS3 fanboy, I'd get a 360 for now and play some great games (e.g. Gears of War) then trade it in against a PS3 when they finally release it. :)

To me Id recommend the 360, as the alleged difference between the 2 isnt that great. There are some great games available now, and it will be a while till the PS3 can match the line up.

Added to the fact you can literally walk into a shop and buy one, then theres the cost factor...

Is the PS3 going to upscale PS2/PS games to 1080p, and add any extra eye candy?

No added eye candy, they claim they done that deliberatly to keep the games in 'original form' and i dont know about the upscaling, i would doubt it though. Maybe the PS games runing on the emu will be different, but your Discs will look exactly like you are playing off a PS2 or PS

And wiggy is that your dog in your sig? its gorgeous

No. They answered this on the latest Gamespot video podcast.

The XBox 360 has an amazing winter line up and a great selection of games already out. There are also some fantastic bundle deals at the moment.

Even if the PS3 line up tickles your fancy realisticly you won't see one until Summer next year so grab a 360 now and get playing some fantastic games (coming up... Gear of War, Alan Wake, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssy, Fable 2, COD3, LA Noire, Resident Evil 5, Mass Effect, Lost Planet, PGR4, Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Crackdown, GTA4, Ninja Garden 2, Forza 2, Alone in the Dark, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell), Two Worlds, Viva Pinata, GRAW 2, Alone in the Dark.. etc etc.).

I don't get why people make such a big deal out of backwards compatability. I'm sure there are people who do use their old Xbox games on the 360, but what percentage do you think they are? I've never been inclined to, and I never will use a previous generation game on a next-gen console!

The only game I've considered this with has been MGS on the PS2...

mm just save up and play FPS as designed on the PC and enjoy until the PS3 comes out?

is it me or is there a massive push to buy XBOX360s on here, as opposed to giving pro's and con's of each?s

What are the pros to waiting around 6 months for a console to be released when there is already a console out with decent games out/comming out in the next few weeks and has great deals?

It's difficult to recommend a machien that hasn't been released and won't be for nearly six months over here.

Most people in the console section are 360 owners going by the posts. So it's no surprise when people recommend the 360.

That might be because the owners are aware of something the non-owners are not.

The 360 is a fantastic console that has a huge evolutionary jump over the xbox and PS2.

There was never a doubt in my mind last december when I switched the 360 on for the first time that the PS3 would be delayed. Sony was in need of many improvements to match what the 360 has. Maybe they have managed them maybe they have not.

Personally I'd say go for the 360 right now. It's going to be March at the earliest before we see the PS3 and the 360 is starting to churn out some really good games, now.

There really isn't going to be that much of a difference between them, might as well get the one that's available unless you really want to play MGS4 or one of the other PS3 exclusives.

I'd recommend the 360, it's cheaper, available now, has a great online service(free demos/trailers) and has a great line up of games already, and more great games coming out soon(Gears of War, Lost Planet)

PS3 on the other hand is going to be expensive, we know anything about what the online is going to be like, and you most likely won't get your hands on one for a while.

hmm but self justification isnt always good!

bearing in mind you could wait a month or so for the JPN release and glean the information about the console from that i would say it would be more prudent to do that, than to blow £300+ on something you might not want once you have seen the alternative?
