Which cpu cooler?

I think the cooler looks nice in your pics, setter. Nothing about the appearance of the cooler puts me off. :)

I also had a look at Lian Li. I remember seeing their Super Armour Tower, or whatever it was called. Really liked that but pretty expensive.

My builds are a bit messy tbh, im a practical guy lol. Whack it together and hope it works lol. Lian Li cases are the pinnacle of quality, but rather expensive. Mine above will be sent away for powdercoating and cable hole cutting before i use it again.

Your builds look very tidy actually. I've never really had a tidy rig, but that will change with this case since I will have something I haven't experienced before. I think they call it 'room', lol. :)

Lian-Li are gorgeous!

That Akasa Venom is really good, I was helping a guy overclock his 3570K and his reported temps were better than my D-14, not sure how but very good cooler! The fans look like Apaches that have been painted yellow, very good fans.

My favourite cases are Fractal, followed by Lian-LI (because of price and lack of black interior on most Lian-Li).

Well, I'm going to be gentle with her.

At first, it'll just be at stock so I can see if there's any difference between that and my Q6600 @ 3.4. Then, I'll crank it up to 3.6 and see how it goes from there. I assume that once I go beyond 3.6, I'll have to adjust the ram in the bios?

3570K goes to 4.2 on stock voltage. At 4.0 your stock cooler should cope okayish and also the voltage will be low if you have a good chip.

By default the cpu will auto overclock to 3.7 anyway. ;) (TURBO)

My overclock:

Currently at 4.2GHz 1.16V under load! Stock is 1.1950V or 1.20V under load.

VCore - Normal -0.035V offset
Turbo Vcore 42
VTT 1.050V
PLL 1.500V

2133MHz Samsung CL9-11-11-21 1T 1.5V

LLC:
VCore Standard (for lowest vcore under load)
DDR A/B Extreme (It keeps my DDR voltages bang on 1.5V)
VTT Extreme (Keeps my VTT at 1.060V under load for stability)
IGPU Standard (Useless to me IGPU is disabled)

Oh, also, I came from a Q6600 and this new chip blew me away. :)

You're welcome. :D It is very good ram! Looking forward to their 20nm ram hope it overclocks as well as this stuff. Wish I had a Megahalem's now, it cools well and it's not as HUGE as my D-14. :D

It may be my imagination, but since going from 4 to 8gb of ram, things do seem...well, a bit swifter; a fairly subtle difference, but I think I can see a change. Almost wished I'd gone for more of it when it was on offer. :D

You will notice a difference in memory hogging games, like BF3. 8GB is enough for games. I have 8GB use 1GB for RAMDISK for pagefile and caches. RAMDISK is like 7GBPS . XD 7300mbps read 9500mbps write.

I've received my cpu and mobo. Do I need to purchase the paste separately to apply the stock cooler, or should it have come with it?

Do I have to do anything with the 'sticker' like paste on the underneath of the cooler? It looks like you might have a layer to peel off. I can't see anything in the manuals that mentions this, though.

Thanks, RJC. That's exactly it, although my paste is slightly off center, though I don't think that will matter. Cheers. :)

Done. That was a piece of cake in the end, and there was me being a little apprehensive. :)
