My current box of dishwasher tablets - Finish Powerball - is almost finished and I have been less than impressed. In particular it seems to have difficulty removing tannins. So, to which tablet should I switch?

I have a Miele dishwasher with a separate cutlery tray. Salt and rinse aid levels are okay.

I've always used Finish powerball after some fairy tablets trashed a load of our glasses. I know which rate the Aldi own brand very highly as well as the Finish ones so they maybe worth a try if you want a different and cheaper alternative.

Tesco everyday value ones here.

We used to use expensive ones, but switching to cheap ones made no difference to how clean everything ended up.

Both Waitrose and Tesco own brand ones work just as well as the Finish super pricey ones.

Same goes for DW salt and rinse aid.

How regularly does the OP clean the fine mesh drain filter?

Think we are using the Aldi own brand or something like that - just work nothing special nothing bad, glasses come out fine, no problem with stains, etc. with tea cups/mugs.

I dont find that it makes any difference at all between seemingly any of them. Over the last 6 months we have used a mix of Carrefour value line ones, and Sainsbury's own brand and i cannot tell the difference between them at all.

I have tried the Waitrose ones but found they left water marks on glassware. I'd probably give them another go though as they are 1/2 the price of others we use.

We are currently getting through a massive box of Finish Powerball tablets which we bought for some stupidly low price on Amazon when they had some offer going on. I find them good but do begrudge paying so much for them.

When we go to France we have to buy vinegar based cleaning products due to gite having a septic tank but they actually seem to be much better at removing tougher stains.

I must confess though, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to loading my dishwasher, my wife always moans at me that I almost clean the dishes before loading them. At the end of the day I'd rather rinse off down the drain than clog up a £££ dishwasher.

Your dishwasher should have a filter in the base of the loading area, you can put the dishes/plates in as filthy as you like and any particles will just get caught in that. You have no chance you will break the machine by loading filthy plates :) Added to this, the water inside these machines runs at near boiling, cleaning the plates first is honestly a waste of time.

LidL

Stuff gets crammed in dirty (dont rinse it either), comes out clean.

I think expensive dishwasher tablets are nearly top of the list for fleece factor.

The only poor quality of the wash I get is the failure to remove tannin. That's got to be a chemical issue.
