I looked into it last year when I went on a Linux & self-hosting learning spree, and basically everything I found online said not to bother self hosting mail

As for OP - Gmail since I got on the beta in 2004/2005, managed to snap a firstname.lastname address

You'd be pretty hard done by to find anyone with their salt doing Exchange on prem either.

We've still got two Exchange servers on-prem doing a couple of ancillary bits, but all "normal" mail etc is 365

Other than initial setup, as long as you're on a provider that doesn't get blacklisted it doesn't have to be super difficult. I don't send/receive a huge amount of emails.

Yeah, sadly - I come from an Email Admin background which is why I still enjoy it, most people would hate running it on prem again.

I wouldn't recommend it for 99% of people, I probably wouldn't even recommend it for myself, but as I say it's something I enjoy.

Zoho mail for my own domain email, active sync - £12 a year for a 10GB mailbox - low use so suits me fine along with a gmail account.
