My daughter seems to be interested in playing the odd game and rather than her playing random flash games would rather she played something which offered a more solid idea of "gaming".

Dont get me wrong, this is not instead of going and playing outside but 15 minutes here and there will not cause any harm and we likely all enjoyed playing games as children so I see no reason to deprive mine of that right ;)

I have a Wii but to be honest, call it fanboism if you will, would rather she played on the PC and got used to proper keyboard and mouse controls.

She enjoys watching me playing Portal 2 although to be honest, trying to explain that to a 5 year old is not that easy (Not that I have tried in any great detail as I end up confusing myself) - lol

I tried a demo of Beep off of Desura which she liked but the Map selection screen is a little fiddly for a youngster.

A platformer would be good with some logick skills required, either keyboard controlled or keyboard and mouse would be fine.

Many Thanks.

I know it is still kinda techn ically a flash game, but have you tried club penguin? It's a Disney wee MMO for kids?

lego games are fun platform games and require some pretty basic puzzle solving. download a demo see if she likes it. lego indiana jones was available as a demo for PC. not sure about harry potter, pirates of carribean, star wars etc... are available as PC demos, but they are very similar types of games

Toki Tori - cutesy platformer and £3.49 on Steam

Thanks guys.

I allready own Lego Star Wars and Toki Tori on Steam so will definitely give those a go, thanks.

Toki Tori is a very cutesy platformer and some good logick puzzles too which ticks the boxes, good shout.

Completely forgot about the co-op on Lego Star Wars.

LOL - Strangely, I dont think a 5 year old would have fear so she could play it unlike myself who ***** my pants within 3 minutes.

my little sister (5) enjoys minecraft (peaceful mode XD) Although she cant do any of the more tricky crafting.

She watches us play all kinds of games. The main problem for her to play games on her own is just the reading aspect :/

Perhaps old PS2 games, spyro, crash bandicoot

she also likes drawing games and animal crossing on the DS.

Keyboard and mouse would be nice to teach. but really they are too young. the DS is a perfect platform for a kid of that age.

Until she can read and understand a little better (ie after a year or 2 of school) i think you should put the more "solid" idea of gaming aside. I understand you dont want a console newb as a daughter. Just give it time and make sure she grows up around high end PCs and such and she will take to them eventually.

my first games were : Spiderman, metal gear solid, didnt understand the story, Tekken 2, red alert, crash bandicoot, syphon filter, i had the proper training lool.

One of my first PC games was Duke Nukem 3D :D

before that on Amstrads, Amigas I played various gruesome and inappropriate titles...I came out okay :D

What about Plants vs Zombies?

My first game for PC was Jazz Jack Rabbit 2. I still have the original disc :D

I played co-op with my sister all the time :)

Viva pinata gets another vote from me. should be able to pick it up rediculously cheap now as well

its a much better game than you would think
