Which "Hot Hatch"?

Hang on - is the OP actually changing his stance based on some solid advice from those with more knowledge and experience? Doesn't he know that he has to uphold the Motors tradition of ignoring any useful advice and just doing what he wanted to anyway? :P

If it was me : S3, few years old, vanity plate and you're sorted.

Omg could this be a thread with a happy ending

that civic someone posted in red on a 59 just screams sense
under a year old 15k
id get it if I had the money

if I ever buy a new car it will be for one of the following reasons
a) I'm a millionaire/ want a supercar
b) I earn 100k plus a year and want a specific car in very specific spec

otherwise I will be buying cars that are a year old
it's what smart people do see
reap the rewards from the retarded

thinking about it I would go a step further why not get a 58 or 08 there still only 1.5 / 2 years old and the savings are massive
as above with the savings you could get it taxed insurance valeted and detailed
then service and still have change
makes massive sense really

ATM this seems a good idea, I think replace those with the Civic and we are on to a winner here :D

Thats the best idea all thread to be honest. At the end or 2 or 3 years, the whole car is yours, instead of the minute £1-2k equity on a PCP.

Zopa is great, if you're lending money. I lend there, and the returns are very good. I wouldn't want to borrow there though.

At the risk of derailing the thread, why not? I did a few years ago and it was brilliant. The rate was better than any bank would give me, they had a personal touch when applying (called to ask about some old missed payments on a store card rather than seeing them and declining me) and it's very flexible - can repay additional amounts as and when you like with no penalties.

@iaind - because the rates I've always lent at are comfortably inexcess of what can be obtained from the high street. I guess it just depends on your personal circumstances.

Well they don't do a non turbo 2.0!

They did a 2.0 TDI though :)

I've never looked into the lending side much, but do you not get to choose the rate as a lender? My understanding was it matched you as a borrower to lenders who wanted to lend at the rate you were assessed at.

As a borrower, the rate was about 0.5% less than the best rate I could get from a bank and I liked the flexibility and the general principal

Mazda offer interest free with 50% deposit, 3.9% APR over 2 and 5.9% APR over 3 on a PCP and throw in a grand deposit on the MX5. If you work the dealer hard they will also discount the car too which is a relatively cheap way to buy a car if you want a new car or an MX5 and the trade in we got on my wifes car was pretty much the value similar cars were selling for (IN THE TRADE!) on Pistonheads, so didn't get butt ****** on that front either. In reality you could buy the car new on a PCP for less money than some novice walking in and paying for the entire car cash as the cost of the money is zero or very low over 2 years and a discount could probably be secured to cover the interest costs.

Mmm... I'm loving Honda's black paint recently, I've spotted a few normal Civics parked up and they have an awesome finish from a distance.

I'd only buy a new car if I was paying cash for it IE I could afford it and could afford to take the depreciation

If a dealer is selling a used car you get a warranty, someone else has taken the hit and its cheaper, from where i'm sat its a no brainer, plus buying a car on finance just to impress your mates is pretty damn incredible, most mates will dissapear over the years and the ones that dont are the ones that wont care what car you drive

I personally feel the best value for money zone with hot hatches is at about £10-12K. That kind of money will get you some serious metal. A new shape CTR, Focus ST, Leon Cupra R, or even a really nice Mk.V Golf GTI/R32.

MkV R32 for £10-12K? No. Even the GTis wouldn't be brilliant examples for this money.

OP - if you can get a facelift Scirocco for your money, i.e. with the MkVI interior, then I would go for the Scirocco.

The Seat feels cheaper and the Honda --- I just can't even imagine why anyone would want to spend time in one. I looked at them before I bought my Golf and they were just *lol*, no matter how great they are to drive I just couldn't stomach it. The dash array looked like something from Buck Rogers. The first point of contact was the door handles as I got into it and from that point I new I hated it.

Sciroccos look great from the outside, have a certain cool factor over the Golfs and Seats, and are comfortable inside also, both in terms of interior materials and ride quality. Only available in three doors though, but I'm not sure at 23 this will matter to you at all.
