Does XBMC off a raspberry handle 1080p mkvs and movies fine though ?
I would have half imagined the quality and performance would not come close to an small or htpc pc ?
Yeah it's fine really, sure a NUC might be more powerful and faster, but it does play back OK. I use the Yatse app for my phone/tablet to browse the library so no need to browse from the Raspbmc menu itself.
The RPi is very power efficient as well only using about 4-5 watts, so you can pretty much just leave it plugged in all the time! The RPi is also relatively inexpensive to purchase and runs silently which is great for the Living room.
I may still get a NUC one day but it would just be because I like new toys as opposed to having any real need to replace the RPi with something better...
