Yeah it's fine really, sure a NUC might be more powerful and faster, but it does play back OK. I use the Yatse app for my phone/tablet to browse the library so no need to browse from the Raspbmc menu itself.

The RPi is very power efficient as well only using about 4-5 watts, so you can pretty much just leave it plugged in all the time! The RPi is also relatively inexpensive to purchase and runs silently which is great for the Living room.

I may still get a NUC one day but it would just be because I like new toys as opposed to having any real need to replace the RPi with something better...

Yeah quite true about the low power usage, literally just leave it always running. I had a cubieboard 2, but found the HD quality to be poor at best but then again it was not using the hardware gpu properly. I think the nuc is best choice overall but then again its much more pricey.
 
Was considering the Synoloy DS412, but does anyone know how the performance is ?

Was planning on downloading multiple torrents and say streaming 1080p mkvs?

I would hate for it to be sluggish during playback while downloading and multi-tasking.

Its either this or the ASUSTOR AS-604T with its dual core 2.13ghz atom.

If only they sold those tiny boards and p/s kits from these nas boxes everyone would be buying and building there own super nas boxes :)

Hmm wild thoughts of disconnecting a intel nuc to make a supernas box lol
