Agreed, though Im more of a pessimist in that I dont think their future was that customer-centric. Hell I dont even think Kinect is there for gaming. My reasoning why they were never that forthcoming where they wanted to go.

I think MS probably see Kinect as more of a family device if you like, but I'm certain they're hoping developers come up with some amazing ways to use it in games. They are probably asking their own studios to do just that so they can justify it to gamers as well as general families.

But that design brief isnt different to when Kinect was first launched, yet here we are still waiting. Its tiring to hear the excuses that now its mandatory someone will just magically find a use for it as if its just a flick of a switch...

Im not trying to have a go, just seems hard to be optimistic when the past dictates otherwise and without a catalyst or a new paradiagm its doomed to repeat...

I don't mind having kinnect due to cost as it's a one off cost.

What I don't want is games with stupid kinnect bits bolted in like cut scenes where you have to 'climb' a wall much like tapping A etc

Would I buy one with or without kinnect.. Probably without. I still think it should be detachable tho, if not for purely cable management! Infact, that could be an issue!
From what I gather even though it is every box you still can't physically unplug it

Still Xbox One for me, quite disappointed they've ditched the digital approach with the online check etc, personally I think they should have met somewhere in the middle. E.g. if you don't have internet access, still allow your games to be played with the disc in.

This is what i wanted it to be like, play from disk no check, play from library does a check to see if anyone else is playing the disk if not you can play from the HDD. Simple idea that i couldnt see a problem with.

Surely 20% of the X360 market is still worth something? What thats like 14million people (supposedly Kinects sold more than that but lets run with your figure) who each spent $100 dollars on a Kinect. So these 14million people have also demonstrated a higher level of consumption aswell as owning the required devices.

So little point in targetting these people that seem to be a small audience and dont seem to like spending money on console stuff? Seems a surprising choice to me...

Because publishers play it even safe. You put a game out for 20% of the market, not 100% of that market then buys it. Your odds are always dropping. Target the major market and the drops, whilst still significant, justify a safer spending of budget.

Wait for Beyond Two Souls - seen nothing yet ;)
Using Heavy Rain as the last reference point for a David Cage game, he has. ;)

Naughty Dog are a massive feather in Sony's cap, no doubt about that. Although I think they're far from perfect, they do have a style I appreciate and tell an interesting story.

As I said in the last thread. I will buy a PS4 on launch and a XO most likely later down the line. So voted PS4 :)

NOTHING has changed for me.

You should have voted "Both" then.

Too little, too late. They have reversed policies for the wrong reason, all their execs are slime bags, and will probably screw everyone over again given the chance.

Along with the fact I have no interest in motion controls, and the £430 is a little unpalatable right now. Pre ordered my PS4 for £330, a good £100 cheaper.

PS4for me

+1 to this. They make it seem like they're the players best friend, and are 'listening' to what the player wants.

We all know it's because they knew the One was going to bomb and probably not even break even.

Whos to say they might suddenly decide to 'reintroduce' these features in future when everyone has their console..

Playstation 4 only here, for me it's mainly about the exclusives as I'm sure the multi platform games will be near identical on both consoles. I can only really go on the small selections of exclusives shown at E3 and the exclusives we've had this generation. For me the ones I've enjoyed the most are:

Xbox 360
  • Forza series
  • Alan Wake (though was released on PC later on)
Playstation 3
  • God of War series
  • Uncharted series
  • Heavy Rain
  • LittleBigPlanet series
  • The Last of Us
  • Gran Turismo
  • inFamous series
  • Journey
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Flower
Naughty Dog, Polyphony, Sony Japan Studio, Sucker Punch and Santa Monica make some great exclusives and I'm sure that'll continue onto the PS4. Outside of Forza and Alan Wake nothing on the 360 has really interested me. Those are just my personal tastes but the main thing for me when choosing a console is the selection of exclusive games/developers. I'll probably end up buying multiplatform games on PC anyway, and if, like in this generation we see a large amount of 360 exclusives making their way to PC down the line then they aren't really exclusive any more.

Too little, too late. MS can do one tbh.
What is to stop them doing a U-Turn once the console is out? I have always disliked the direction the 360 took once Peter Moore left MS to go to EA. Console exclusives and general attitudes to Europe took a tumble once he left.

At the end of the day the console is still overpriced, has a stupid camera that is useless in my small room, and to top it off it has a fatass power brick STILL in this day and age. Oh and Sony imo have better studio's working for them too.

I've already got my first ever Sony console on preorder primarily for blu-ray film usage, and exclusives coming in secondary. The PC will still be my primary gaming machine.

That's another way they could have gone as well. I feel like we are missing out on all the benefits their new system was bringing and could have brought further down the line (lower cost digital game sales like Steam being a big one).

I'm still going to buy one but it's disappointing.

Why? It's not confusing. It can be turned off. Microsoft have said this. I have said this. Other people have said this. That's not confusing.

You Didn't quote my full paragraph though, I actually said

In all honesty I'm still confused about whether or not Kinect can/cannot be turned off. Do they mean you can go into the options and turn it 'off' and still play games, use the dashboard and video features etc just fine. Or do they mean that you can turn it off but half the consoles features and games stop working ? If it all works ok with it turned off then why the need to have it plugged in, surely it wouldn't be much of a stretch at that point to just allow the console to function without Kinect, and maybe offer a cheaper SKU without it bundled in.

I understand they are saying you can 'Turn it off', what I'm saying is that I have yet to understand what ramifications this has with regards to system and game functionality. As yet I still don't know what happens, maybe my google skills are failing me but I can't find anything out there at the minute that explains how Kinect integrates with the system and how it functions if one chooses to 'Turn it off'. And yes, a part of my decision to pre-order a PS4 rather than a XB1 was based on concerns over Kinect and a lack of this kind of information.

Id be amazed if it affects anything while off mark_t50, I would assume thats why you havent seen any of the ramifications of that, I dont think there are any.
