Which TV chefs DON'T you like?

Gordon Ramsey... Being a good chef does not give you an excuse to be a complete ahole and treat/talk to people like something your would scrape off your shoe.

Totally agree, I also watched his programme about shark fins and he treated someone elses restaraunt (going around hassling customers) in a way he wouldnt tolerate in his.

Nigel Slater looks like some greasy paedo which makes me sick just looking at him.

Jamie Oliver with his fat tongued mokney BS.

James Martin for going on about Yorkshire every ******* week on Saturday Kitchen. We know you are from Yorkshire you fat **** we get it.

Anybody see Saturday Kitchen this morning. I swear James uttered "Sounds good to me" at least five times in the first 20 minutes. He just seems to blurt it out he has nothing to say.

Oh and the constant butter references. Time for a new presenter I think.

No it's not.

Considering art is entirely subjective in its nature, you can't really make a sweeping statement like that :p

I agree that food can be more than stuff on a plate to eat. For me it's pretty much the cornerstone of my life (without getting too gushy). I love to cook for friends and family, creating something everyone can enjoy and converse over, something which a lot of people seem to have forgotten to do these days. It's one thing that I am guaranteed do pretty much everyday which I enjoy. The simple things eh?

Some people just see food as fuel. Considering you have to eat everyday (essentially) to stay alive, I think it's worth making the effort to make it special.

Celebrity chefs cook food, in a restaurant, where people go to eat. It's meant to be eaten, it's a plate of food, not some work of art. It's not a sweeping statement at all. Tell me, what was the last meal that you classed as a piece of art?

This as well. His attitude in Hell's kitchen stank & if he spoke to me like that I'd hit him.

Has anyone seen Barefoot Contessa? I first saw it in New York but it's on the UK Food Network on Freeview. I sort of admired her programme at first because she uses real ingredients to make food that isn't too Americanised, but a few episodes in and she introduced that crusty old fat guy who she *seems* to be shagging on the side. Grosses me out more than anything, but she's another one where I can't stop watching her programmes :p

Hahaha, so true about Lorraine Pascale. Yes Lorraine, SURE you eat all these cakes all the time, SURE you load the butter on, SURE you eat this stuff every night :p

I can't decide if that's fair or not so I'll just go ahead and post it anyway. I'll get out of it by saying that both are welcome at my table anytime :D

Most TV chefs are slightly ridiculous, over the top characters hamming it up for the camera. This means I can find them entertaining in short bursts, but they are fundamentally all a bit irritating.
The worst are Gordon Ramsey, Heston, ainsley harriot and Anthony Worrall Thompson. Strangely I can enjoy watching one of Ramseys shows, though I think he is definitely a p****! The same applies for Heston.

Favourite would probably be Rick Stein.

What do people think of Simon Rimmer?

I really quite like the banter and his bromance with Tim Lovejoy on SFTW, but i find most of the food he cooks quite unappealing. I conatrast this to Nigel Slater, whose style I find a bit creepy but I really like many of the things he comes up with.

Yeah, I like the banter but some of the food they cook has no appeal. They are on C4 from next week at 9am. Looks like exactly the same format as SFTW :p

If I could banish any TV chef from our screens out of the multitude that exist... or Tim Lovejoy, I'd pick him. It's like he won a competition to be a television presenter that he never entered and didn't really want to. No apparent interest in anything or anyone he comes across on SFTW, smug as hell with no skills to back it up, and doesn't seem to have any sense of irony or the basic dignity to be able to laugh at himself.

But anyway, chefs...

I think some of the appeal is watching him make a complete prat of himself though :p

and the ambiance that goes along with it.

TBH, as a chef I couldn't give a toss about 'ambience'.

Ambience is created by scenery, music, lighting and decor. Not food. Hence it's more a restaurant managers job to care about this kind of thing than a chefs.

Personally all I care about is the presentation of the dish, and taste.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the importance of ambience to diners, but creating that ambience certainly isn't a chefs job, typically.
