I think I can manage to outrage all the tea drinkers, whatever milk they use or whatever the order in which they add the ingredients...I usually use powdered whitener in my tea instead of milk :)

A position so heretical that it's not even in the voting options!

The ones saying milk before water - is this some kind of sick joke?

UNLESS you've elevated your tea game and you're using a tea pot to brew the tea then, and only then, do I agree that Milk before Water

Whole milk but in coffee.

I'm not a tea drinker but I'm still disgusted by people adding milk before hot water when brewing a tea. Surely you're just bringing the brewing temperature down?
Tea bag, boiling water, brew, remove tea bag with a very light squeeze so you don't make the drink claggy, then milk.

If you need to put milk and/or sugar in coffee or tea do you really even like it?

People who do so like the resulting drink. Calling it tea or coffee is easier than having to make up and remember dozens of words for each drink, depending on how much milk and/or sugar is in it. I think the question is how far you can go from the drink itself before it's so different that it really should be called something else. I know people who have 6 spoons of sugar in a cup of coffee. The resulting drink tastes so different to coffee that I think a different name might be appropriate. Then there's people who add strongly flavoured syrups and spices and whatever.

I don't care how people like their drinks. If someone likes their tea with ground oats and dandelion leaves in it, whatever. I don't have to drink it. Each to their own. I'm only musing on nomenclature.

Which reminds me...herbal teas aren't tea. They're something else.

I like milk, but enough to keep the tea strong. my tea of choice is Earl/Lady Grey. half a spoon of brown sugar too and whole milk preferred.

Ah you must be one of the dozen people who go out of their way to have an Earl Grey tea! I always wondered where you lot hid :p
