Damn I brought my Type R two years ago, 46000K 54 reg for £8500
Still wouldn't swap it for anything, highly recommended.
Don't feel too bad, at that point in time it was younger than this car.

I see what you mean but the key to that was "very poor performance while drinking fuel"
if it was quick it would not bother me, but the 2.0 8v unit is far from it.
I would consider another ibiza a cupra maybe, but there are not a lot around and I think I prefer the leon.
Someone mentioned an mx 5 looked at one which had a hard top, but the girlfriend does not want one encase we have children in the future.

As for the depreciation if I sold said car in 2-3 years I would be happy to get 2k, the ibiza has held its value similarly. What I do not want to do is overpay for something because they are more expenisve here then get a low amount.
Getting one newer than 05 for under £6k might be a challenge.
They are nice cars though (once you ditch the run flats)

I will admit I haven't driven the S, but my GF has a Cooper. As an all round car its nice, it's just crying out for more power. Does the S not delivery that then?

What puts me off about the Mini in general is the change in engines and shape at 06 age which is out of my price range.
Nice cars though, I actually learned and did my test in one, it was a cooper.
The civic type R is good, but a bit far away. (im based in north east)
Should mention that I will be buying from a garage so prices will be inflated anyway as i will be trading in the ibiza.

Someone mentioned Clio, after replacing several coil packs on a parents and helping a friends 172 engine replacement then gear box replacement a year later I am a bit put off.

The cupra R is a cracking car, I suggest driving that one, even if it is red (though I think its ambitiously priced). Can't say the ST would even get a look in for me assuming a choice between the two - but if you like both then there's no harm checking them out.

Surely if you want something fast then go for a hot hatch? Otherwise the Swift is perfect example of a warm hatch.
