Whichs keys for FPS gaming? Arrow keys or W,A,S,D?

i use WASD now with this keyboard.

on my old keyboard there used to be 2 arrow key sets, 1 in the normal place and a second on the lower left., would then set ctrl + shift as crouch + jump respectively.

if any1 see's a keyboard like this anywhere please let me know, its makes things much easier i find and i dont press the other like 12 keays around WASD that i dont need, ty :)

Sry to ask, but are all you people using arrow keys, left handed mouse holders?, seems a bit odd to me to strech all the way to the right to arrow keys if you hold mouse with right hand.

it does seem to make sense for a left handed mouse user to prefer the arrow keys i guess but im a leftie myself and i use the wsad keys. ive gotten too used to wsad to bother trying to use the arrow keys

I'm right handed I just push my keyboard over to the left a wee bit!

Going to try and train myself to use the default keys from now on!

Whats is it with the kiddie NOOB comments??? Some poeple just find it easier to play that way??

Get a grip

Not calling you noob anywhere (so i hope you dont refer to me), just found it odd to strech all the way to the right, wasd is a bit more natural to the left hand while updownleft right arrows are more for a right hand, but right hand is usually for mouse.

I still cant drive real properly with wasd (left hand) like with arrows (right hand), i mean i can drive with both, but prefer arrows by a mile, same as i prefer left hand / wasd now for fps games moving, with arrows i just mess up as i can't have any keys close to lean left/right wich in some games like mohaa is really needed.

thats why i mentioned a keyboard with arrow keys on the left side as well as the right as it was easier with me being right handed.

never seen a keyboard like it in the entire time i had it. it was however about 10 years old, had to chuck it though as it just stopped working :(

found the place that made then using the seriel code on the back, emailed them but they said they dont make it anymore, they make industrial keyboards instead now :(

I use to use the arrow keys early on back in the days of HL1, i quickly changed over to WSAD and didnt really find it much of a hassle changing over, almost every game i install has the wsad standard keys programmed in and its way to much hassle adjusting them, feels much more comfortable using them instead of arrows also.

WASD, i use to use the arrow keys back in counter strike: condition zero, but my solution to not getting pwnt....

WASD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a weird setup and use the arrow keys, whilst i agree that most people benifit from using WASD i am actually better with the arrow keys and used to be quite good at FPS (sold pc last year, havent played since)

although i am a lefty :D

I started with the arrow keys (Wolf-3D, Doom) but I soon switched to WSAD when Quake was launched, so I could perfect circle-strafing, ducking, jumping, reloading, weapon-switching, etc.

For people still using arrow keys, isn't it awkward to access keys for sprint, jump, crouch, reload, flashlight, lean left/right, throw grenade, select a weapon, etc, without taking your eyes off the screen??

how on earth do some of you guys use arrows keys ?, do you guys use the mouse in you left or right hand ?

edit - ah looks likes it's already been asked, I did wonder though, I guess some of you hold the mouse in your left hand and others just push the keyboard over to the left a little.

Ctrl, Shift, Enter, Delete, End, Page Down, 0, etc :)

I used to use arrow keys, but that was on an older keyboard, where there was no gap between 'forward arrow', and 'end'. What made me change to WASD, was the big gap between them on most keyboards now, or some other strange layout.
Though due to my rigorous training on the arrows, I now have a habit as using CAPSLOCK as jump, and SHIFT as crouch.
e = reload
SPACE = action/use
r = flashlight
TAB = scores
q = run/walk
f = depends on the game really. Melee, or something. Though melee is usually on mouse, as one of the thumb buttons (copperhead).
z,x = lean one way or other.
