^as I suggested earlier, it's a shame that WASD has become the 'standard' config for games when if something more central was chosen it would give better access to a wide range of keys.
One idea I put forward a couple of years back on this forum was the concept of being able to configure your most common keys independent of the game, perhaps in directx settings or similar. So, you could define keys for functions like:
forward
back
left
right
primary fire
secondary fire
crouch
prone
reload
jump
walk
objectives/scoreboard
etc
...in Windows, and then games could be coded to automatically pick up those functions. This would greatly reduce the time needed to setup games when you first install them (especially for those who don't use WASD). MS could have make it be part of their "Games for Windows" program or whatever it's called.
Obviously such a 'one size fits all' affair would still need some tweaking as games often have their own functions that others don't have, but it'd be a start.
