Who else hates this guy (Gregg Wallace)?

The soggy bottom is obviously a 'risqué' double entendre but was relevant to the conversation about what was being cooked at the time.

As is "left to me own devices, I'd munch the living daylights out of your... your little tart."

  • The baked item in question is a tart.
  • It is quite small.
  • He has just expressed that he thinks it's tasty.
  • Munching is a common activity performed on food items which you find enjoyable.

None of what he said was out of context - he's saying he likes it so much he could quite happily eat the whole thing whilst also making a 'risqué' double entendre which was relevant to the conversation about what was being cooked at the time.

John could have just as easily said "the bottom is soggy" or "you've got a soggy base", both of which would have had exactly the same meaning but without the double entendre.

However the whole point of TV is to be entertaining - so clearly the presenters are injecting a little bit of humour into it for entertainment purposes.

In this case, it seems they crossed the line of appropriateness, but I'm struggling to see how anyone can say Greg's comment was massively inappropriate, whilst not thinking the same of John's, unless they're just joining in the witch hunt.

The guys either a manchild or a fellow autist like his son and doesn't realise all the weird-ass stuff he's said.

He's too young to be throwing out this kind of boomer humour.

It's the kind of crap I'd of only said to a best friend in the 2000's in a club drunk.

This guy is on set, in a professional work setting with people he barely knows.

How he's failed his way upwards to this level is beyond me.

He certainly hasn't helped himself by blaming it all on a handful of middle aged women.
Yeah, I never disliked him, so to speak, but it is entirely believable that he's like that. The double-down and blaming women instead of acknowledging it was all in poor taste are the wildest things I've seen, and one can only assume he hasn't consulted his PR team on that one.

If they end up sacking John Torode as well then they can replace him with South African cricket coach Jonty Rhodes and not have to change any of the voicemail settings.

Absolutely

I thought I covered that in my reply you quoted, that it can be about patterns of behaviour not any specific incident now highlighted.

I didn't actually watch the clip with this tart thing, is this just being used as an example (like I say not everything is inappropriate) or is this a case where a complaint was made?

Oh of course, I'm not passing judgment on any behaviour other than that particular clip, I have no idea if he has any particular track record, or what goes on off-air. It just seemed like a very poor example to use, as both presenters make (IMO) equally as appropriate/inappropriate comments, but only one of them seems to be getting any comeback from it.

Next years BBC line up is going to be a real hoot with any hint of sexual innuendo now being treated as criminality.

I guess re-runs of any Carry On films are right off the cards then :p

Yes Sid James, Kenneth Wiiliam and Frankie Howerd would be in trouble I'd they were still around.
