who enjoys and gets on with eyefinity? (6990 upgrade)

hey guys,

who enjoys and gets on with eyefinity?

im thinking of getting a 6990 at the end of the month and might try eyefinity with it

but dose the edge of the monitors get annoying when gaming? or shall buy a 30" monitor or a 1080p TV?

so could you guys spec me with 1 big monitor or 3 monitors with the 6990 :)

cheers

Tried it couldnt get on with it over steched images on the side and the bezels....

Also you need one beasty system to run the lastest games on full spec with AA (as you'll need AA due to it still being a 1080 screen at heart)

Since changing down to 1x 2560x1440 screen i can run at better settings and higher frame rates and theres no need for AA due to high pixel density

just remember perframe you be pushing

1080= 2.07mp
1440= 3.6mp
eyeinfinty= 6.2mp

can you get 1440 TV's?

also is their a difference in the picture quality from a 1080p TV and a 1080p monitor

so if i got a 6990 or even a 7990 (if the price will be around £600 when its out) will a huge monitor be better or my 1080p 37" LCD TV?

I read somewhere recently that monitors are better than using a tv as they produce a sharper picture and the pixels are grouped closer together.

Whatever that means! Lol

so a 30" or 27" would be the best bet then, unless i go eyefinity

anybody using a 6990? and how are they?

its going to be a upgrade from a gtx480

beasty6: I have a 6990 and run eyefinity on 3x 1080p panels (2x Dell 23" screens and a centre, Samsung S23A750D).

Pros:
Huge desktop real estate, 3x fullscreen pr0n is how adult entertainment was meant to be watched.
Extremely immersive gaming, big WOW factor

Cons:
Requires insane horsepower to run latest games at high quality settings
Few games with native true support, usually fiddling required and FOV issues / stretching usually remains
Eyefinity on the desktop isn't as good as extended desktop, so I find myself chopping and changing between windows and games (not a quick process, need to set up / arrange each time)

Summary:
It is WOW but in real life, you end up just looking at your centre screen and not really paying attention to the peripheral panels (especially in FPS games). I've found myself just playing on the centre monitor as I'd rather have a better looking game running at 120fps (120Hz screen) than turning the settings down and have it run at 50fps across 3 screens.

Best bet is to try it with a friend or at a LAN or something, get in as much gaming time as you can then make your mind up. Huge thumbs up for the 6990 though, outstanding card.

so id be better off getting a 27-30" monitor with a 6990 so i could still have an amazing picture with everything on full and for a decent fps

is their anything bad about the 6990 and should i go for the 6990 or get two 6970's ?

I run eyefinity with a 6990+6970 tifire combo. I love it. But it has it's problems. DVS20 summed it up quite nice!

Now though, ATI have solved the stuttering in BF3 with crossfire/trifire and I now play with eyefinity. WOW! I mean, just WOW! I am so glad that I went down this route

Crossfire isn't a massive problem. I really cannot understand why people don't like it. Issues and modding is the reason we buy PCs! :)

Crossfire itself doesn't present many issues - any new, high-end game where you would need it has the support (Skyrim, BF3, etc). Older games or others that don't have support (in my experience, TrackMania, Quake3 IIRC) don't need crossfire as 1 GPU is more than powerful enough on a card like the 6990.

All of the above said, if it was my money I'd wait for the 7000 series dual GPU card given the range has already been announced / is just around the corner.

Makes no diffrence its still 2 gpu's, but no tv only have a maximum res of 1080p

But imagin a screen with twice the pixels of a 42 tv squeezed into a 27" 1440p screen or 30" 1600p screen the picture quality is leaps ahead that gets my vote after trying between 1080 high fps 1440p and eyeinfinty
