Who has driven a supercar? Were you impressed?

I think a Supercar is not just performance. There are slow cars that are Supercars (Earlier Ferraris anyone?) and there are very fast cars that would leave a 355 for dead which are not supercars.

It's all about the whole ownership experience - the sense of occasion, the exclusivity, buying into a certain marque, as well as the performance and technical capability of a car.

This is why, IMHO, the Honda NSX, as amazing as it is, is not a supercar. I know thats controversial, but its my opinion. I've never driven one, or even had a ride in one, the closest I got was sitting in one, but it certainly didn't feel as special and 'WHOA, Supercar' as the Ferrari I once sat in. Poor judge, probably, but there we go. The Ferrari felt... special. More than special.

The NSX felt like a Honda. Your gran has a Honda.

But this is where my arguement falls down, becuase the Ford GT is indisputably a supercar yet... your Mum has a Ford..

This is a very good point and I agree. Even though Honda has motorsport pedigree, the NSX does not show that, whereas the GT does.

In fact, i've not even been in one.

Same with me, infact the fastest car Ive ever been in is mine unfortunately. :(

The standard NSX is black leather and does feel 'normal' however the proper NSX, the 'R', is carbon clad and MUCH more racey. Shame that they are only import and therefore getting to test drive or even sit in one is rare but I can assure you they aren't normal NSX's.

I think this is a case in point however, badge snobbery makes for a supercar. Someone says Ferrari and regardless its a 'supercar' even though they've made some rather less then super cars in the past. :)

Not driven any "supercars", but I've ridden a fair few "superbikes" in my time and they always impress.

Would be interested to drive a supercar for a bit, just to see how it compares, "point to point" with the bikes I've owned/ridden.

Gotta know yer enemy, aint ya?.

if I was trying to advertise why would I post here? lots more forums I could sell more on rather than advertising here . . .

I've got to say, I agree with all that totally. Despite my love for Jap-Crap, I don't think the NSX is a supercar in the same way as a Ferrari/Lambo.

Plenty of Jap-cars are/can easily be made to have better-than-Ferrari performance, but they wont have that 'soul', that exotic allure that a Ferrari has.

As for the 911, yes, awesome cars, but not a supercar IMO. If the 911 is a supercar, then so is my RX7, as it was a direct competitor at the time.

I've driven an NSX hard on track, it is hugely underated in my view, just some elements such as the intervior don't feel that special.

I love the NSX, probably the only car I'd change my RX7 for at the moment. Not a supercar though.

I haven't driven any performance cars (in fact the fastest car I've actually driven is my car, 169bhp Civic :o).

But I've had a few laps around Silverstone in a Caterham 7 series running an uprated 2.0 Vauxhall engine and twin webers I think. That thing was quick, and I'm talking 4 secs or a bit less to 60, the driver had it up to about 160 and it went some. I've got a video somewhere and they are certainly track weapons.

But it made me think, a supercar is something beyond performance. If it was purely performance a lot of cars could be classed as supercars. I think its the fact the car will feel special and it'd be a pretty unique (i.e. you don't tend to see many 355's on the road) experience being in one let alone driving one.

Thing is the soul of the NSX-R is something to behold, I've driven a 355 and sat in a an NSX-R both at full pelt... the NSX-R sounds just as good, just as sweet and just as immersive - you soon forget your grandad has a 1.8 Accord 'sport'. ;)

I still think the term supercar comes down to badge snobbery. :D

Just IMO of course. ;)

I want an NSX. So so badly.

So it's not classed as a supercar? Couldn't give a flying **** what it's "classed" as.

:)

Same here.

But yeah i dont think it fits the supercar bill.

And neither does a Porsche 911 for example.

Super cars are Ferraris, Lambo, Pagani Zonda, SLR, Porsche Carreera GT etc.
Very expensive, very rare, but easy to recognise as being what they are.

If your not a millionaire then you probably wont have a supercar regardless of its performance. Although saying that, things like the Mc F1 and Porsche GT Carrera are more like hypercars.

Mucher, cant wait to see what you think of a 911 GT3, my dream car
