Who has the best army in the world?

just thought throw this out there but the ghurka's are a pretty roughless special trained unit dont think many world SF's could handle them in jungle warfare.

Nah, you need 1 on 1 fighting to be english.
Chavs would have to gang up like they always do and there isn't enough of them.

Not the mention they'd be doing the "I've pooed myself" gangster walk into the battlefield and not get close enough to do anything.

An english man gets shot, all he's worried about is you got blood on his favourite shirt. He'll knock your ****ing teeth out for it, regardless of whether you're armed.
Thats who we need more of.

They could be used for something useful. For example cannon fodder and a general distraction.

I wonder if the UK + US + say china would be enough to rule the world by force, maybe say germany and Japan too ? (tech and building power, china for man power, us for military and airforce, us for tanks and blah blah) :p

To rule by force you need all the nuclear powers.

And by then you already have over half the worlds population
 
Interesting thread.

Really encouraging that the majority of us think that the UK military is top notch ( me included). Shows we all have faith in our abilities to defend ourselves.

Don't know enough to comment about who has the best overall force. If you were to take ~2,000 each I would expect the US/UK/Isreali armies to be pretty close. US with the best equipment, UK with the best organisation, Isreali with the best spirit. That's pure speculation though.

Probably the Americans but the Germans have some fantastic equipment also.

SAS, the US or the Israel Mossad... no idea if that is true!)

It would depend on what you class as elite ? Battle hardened ? I would say the Israelis. Training wise, I would say the British, Special Forces capability I would also say the British as well although there are many around the world with excellent pedigree such as the Australian SAS and Russian Spetznas.
Mossad is not a military arm, they are a security service like MI5 or MI6.
 
The media portray a poorly funded military here, and yes, maybe for the size and tasks the money could be more, but come on, we spend more on defence than any other country apart from the USA. For the size this country is, I would say that is pretty amazing!!

I wouldn't - it is pretty poor tbh...

given the commitments we're currently undertaking compared to the rest of Europe we ought to be spending more on a par with the US as a % of GDP

unfortunately we're not and are therefore underfunded
