Who here owns a Mini?

I’m undecided on the interior. I’d miss the leather on the current car, but I quite like the giant OLED screen that controls everything and it seemed pretty intuitive. It’s pretty clean and spacious inside too. Then again, it’s not a car for me!
The new screen is superb and easy to use, voice commands are good too, that's my point we just needed that screen in the older trim with a bit of a refresh. When they asked me what I thought in the dealers they agreed with me on interior quality and it was a lot of the feedback. Part of the reason I chose the car in the first place was the interior and leather.

They said part of the reason they had saved money on the interior was because the A1 was their main competition and they had also reduced the premium materials to be come competitive. I've never looked at an A1 so no idea if that's true.

Oh yes, I see what you mean. Agreed.

Funny enough my wife did mention the A1, but no electric variant?

I looked at the new screen in one of the new countryman demonstrators they had at the start of the year. Was shocked at how slow it was to "boot up". It was something like 30 seconds until it was usable

Didn’t notice that yesterday, but I’ll report back if it’s an issue. My TTRS does the same, loading media/maps etc on first startup, it is a pain.

looks smart .. you didn't p/x old one and let the dealer fix vanos? VAT free.

I thought OLED car screens held potential for less reflections and better contrast/readability (do others, other than S class yet have them) so a few seconds on startup is a small price.

so a few seconds on startup is a small price.
It wasn't a few seconds though... My F60 countryman is a few seconds - sometimes you see the mini logo for a couple of seconds until the idrive skin loads (ID4 I think on mine).
Coming from my R56 (which just has the basic stereo that's obviously instant), The new ones would annoy the hell out of me - I'd be off my driveway and half way down the road before it's usable.
Hopefully it was just it was an early software version I tried in a demonstrator, and it's been improved since.

What a morning. Just about to collect the new mini and get a call that the old mini has been fixed. So picked up the new mini, brought it home. Picked up the old mini and sold it. All sorted after a busy few days.
Interested to hear how you get on with the car, the wife is looking for a new car and a Cooper SE Sport is currently top of the list.

Can you turn the central screen off for night driving? Sometimes my eyes would want to rest when doing distances at night.
I'm the same, every time I'm driving my car home at midnight I say to myself that I really must look into turning off all these bloody interior lights :D I've had the car for about 18 months now and haven't changed a setting since I drove it out of the dealers. The manual is on my to do list.

I actually prefer the look of the new interior to the old one. What do you think?

Much prefer it, it just looks much cleaner and the central screen is far better than I expected - clear, responsive, key controls all to hand, crazily customisable. It was a large driving force in choosing this car over cars with the previous interior (plus the updated tech). Most importantly the wife is happy.

Potentially not for a few months yet but I think I've settled on replacing my current car with a Mini. Not a fan of the looks of the clubman or countryman but not driven one so I may be missing some big positives I should consider in my decision.

So I'll be looking at a cooper s hatch. Budget wise probably the F55/F56. Is there anything I should be looking out for? Seems to be some horror stories but like most things it could just be a vocal minority and mistreating their particular car.

My grandfather gave me a Mini for my twelfth birthday and my father gave me a Mini van when I moved to England when I was fourteen. More recently I owned a Mary Quant version and a 30th Anniversary Mini but both were stolen from where they were being stored. I'm not keen on the BMW Minis but would love to get an original Cooper at some point in the future.

The only thing to check is the top motor mounts as they can crack over time. That's pretty much it.

I have an F55S and I absolutely love it to bits.

Yup engines are pretty solid on the F series.
On the F56 check the inner door area near the handle. The seal rubs away the paint which will cause rust if not sorted

18 months of ownership now of a 2023 plate mini and the biggest pita with this car for me is Carplay. It's fine when it's just me using the car but getting in the car after my wife drove it the day before annoys the **** out of me. It takes ages to swap over to my phone. Even worse if I'm going to drive and she drove it the day before but gets in as a passenger. I select my profile, I select my phone and nothing. It will sometimes connect and start playing a podcast or something from my phone but I cannot get the carplay menu up. I often have to forget my phone and reconnect all over again.

Anyone have a quick fix or menu I should be using?

I never have a problem in our other car because they didn't make that car ****ing carplay only by bluetooth and and issues are instantly cleaned up by plugging in the usb cable. I often slow charge my phone on the way to and from work so don't understand why they didn't allow car play by cable as well.
