Who here owns a Renaultsport?

LOL at the new Trophy.

Recaro seats? Nope.
Brembo brakes? Nope.
Manual gearbox? Nope.
LSD? Nope.
Turini wheels? Nope.

All it has got is a remapped engine (+20BHP), a remapped autobox (40% quicker shifts), and lower/stiffer suspension.

Think the new Trophy version of the Clio looks OK to me. But then again, I don't think the standard RS Clio EDC is too bad either. But I would say that wouldn't I, owning one :)

The RS Clio is never going to be the street racer that some were hoping for, Renault are taking a different direction these days.

Stock seats and brakes are just fine for fast road use. Some folks actually like the EDC box, not perfect... But at least it looks like they are attempting to make it a bit sharper now.

Not quite sure what you were hoping for, they seem to have tweaked a fair few things now. To be totally honest, I don't think a manual was ever on the cards.

The current car actually sells very well in it's home market (IE. France) and it's second largest RS market (IE. Australia). In Australia last year it actually outsold the RS Megane for the first time ever.

Just keeping my fingers crossed that the engine/gearbox re-maps will at some point be offered to owners of existing cars.

And before someone jumps in and starts comparing it to the Fiesta ST (as usual) then I tried one myself and didn't really like it. Not condemning the ST, just did not suit me personally. Horses for courses folks.

Just came back from Glastonbury, Had my Clio Trophy with Dan at SJM, he has fitted clio 197 cams, played with the timing, remapped it, major service and a few other bits and bobs, goes like a dream now :D the stupid 5k kick is gone, and pulls a bit better low down, and really notice it top end

The 197 cams seem to be all the rage at the moment. Does it idle the same with the modified timing?

it is a little lumpy on idle, but the rpm tick over has gone up a little too, 197 cams are good for people that are tight like me :P

Just landed a new job so thinking about buying a Clio Sport 197.

Always really wanted one but is there any common faults I should be looking out for?

Also is it worth paying a little extra for a 2008 model, had they ironed out any problems by then?

Thanks, Sam

GEARBOX. That's the major issue with them.

GEARBOX. That's the major issue with them.

Manifolds crack too. Try and check for cracks or if its making a ticking sound with escaping gas.

Edit: Later 197s had a revised gearbox with an improved ratio for 6th gear.

Prices do seem to vary a lot on 182's. Opinions on these two? Both up for £3195 which seems a bit steep for 10/11 year old Clio.

Looks in nice nick from advert, mileage a bit high:

Lower mileage, not much info in advert:

Second one will be due a cambelt unless it has already been done. 2005, so it should have had a cambelt in 2010 and is due one now.

The first one looks better, definitely look for condition. £3k is hardly big bucks especially if it has been looked after IMO. Definitely check it has had the belts done too. The 04 should have had a cambelt last year.

The first one looks a decent motor (nice colour). Sounds like it's been well looked after and I always say that a good write up in an advert goes a long way to demonstrating a thoughtful owner.

As mentioned, make sure the cam belt has been changed at the correct intervals (bills for the work would be nice). And check that the owner has receipts for any work stated as being done. I'd also personally ask if there have been any issues with the gearbox. Can't be too careful I always think.

Lots of others around.

Good luck.

PS. Be willing to travel to get the right car. I made the best part of a 400 mile trip to get what I wanted last time.

Thanks guys, guess I need to concentrate on condition and not stress too much about mileage. Will also cast the net a bit wider and start looking further afield.

Missed what looked (from the advert at least) a very nice 182 on 56k that went for £2300 on cliosport, belts needed doing though.

Happy Megane RS 265 owner here. Tried a lot of cars last year when I went to buy and fell in love with the one I have now. Absolute beast at stock and looks phenomenal. Once the warranty expires a quick remap will happen :)

I've just sold my Clio 172, pictures below... It has decat, miltek cat back, induction kit and rs tuning remap. It was 170.1bhp, which is as far as I am aware pretty high for a 172!
