Who here owns a Renaultsport?

RS 250 Megane's. Talk to me. Are these any good? Any common reliability issues etc?

I've never considered one before, not sure why. Always been wary of French cars... interested to know if they're solid or can just be a pain with big bills :)

Mechanic reckons previous owner has removed a light from the dash.

Gonna get it diagnostic read after next pay day and see what it says in regards to ABS. I need to replace the front shocks so the mechanic said he'll do the diagnostics under the same job and not charge me for it.

Go to a quiet road and brake hard. See if it steps in?

God knows why you would remove ABS.

Depends. If you are using it as a track car you can remove the ABS properly, and maintain the same brake balance and things, effectively turning it into the same as the 172 Cup which came without ABS from the factory.

Or... you can pull the fuse out and/or disable the warning light meansing ABS is just 'off' (i.e. not removed), which results in a 50/50 brake distribution which will see you have much lower braking force (its usually a much more forward biast balance) and risk locking the rears easily. The reason for doing this is to get your car through an MOT without having to fix whatever is causing the ABS light to come on (as having the light on is a fail, whereas having 50/50 distribution would be fine).

So it could have been properly removed, which will be fine, or it could have simply been disconnected and the bulb removed, which is less fine and could potentially be dangerous.

The difference between the standard brake distribution and 50/50 is quite a big gap. I had the ABS light come on halfway down a straight at Bedford and when I braked for the next chicane I had what felt like only half the braking power, meaning I sailed through the chicane and up the escape road

I've put this in cliosport.net but worth putting it here also.

Hey Chaps,

I've noticed oil dripping just under the timing belt side of the engine and having a look under the car looks as though it is caked all over the place. The leak looks very watery and not as black. I've checked the engine oil and it appears to be fine.

Additionally, the steering feels heavy and whines a lot when I turn the wheel or full lock it. Could it be the power steering fluid that is going everywhere?

Why do you change cars so frequently?

Why do you change cars so frequently?

Boredom and can't settle with any as of late, may as well try a few bangers whilst I can :)

It's just hard to decide where to go from mine performance wise. I don't really expect to go quicker but I think I'd be frustrated downgrading too much power wise.

I need a reasonably well sized boot for some bits with work but ultimately I keep ending up with "hot hatches" but they suit my needs well. I just get bored of looking at the same thing. To be fair the Focus is good so I should enjoy it more but I think I'm one of those people who loves hyping themselves up, learning all about different motors, getting excited to get one then I'm all meh what's next :)

I need some new locking wheel nuts for my Clio 200 , have been to halfords and my local Renault garage but no luck there. Have tried the ones that halfords sell but these are not long enough in the thread. Can someone please recommend which ones I need and any idea where a could buy them from.
I like the looks of this make McGard

Thanks

End of an era :(. Sold my Clio 172 today, gets picked up on Sunday.

Its been almost 6 years since I bought it:

Picked this up Wednesday. As soon as the weather drys up a bit the Decals are coming off.

Its done 50k in that time, gone from being a daily doing a regular 30 mile each way commute, to being a track day toy, to back to being a regular commuter and everything in between.

Its been the most unreliable, annoying, stupid car I've ever known, but I love it.

Its not moved for almost 5 months and I have no plans (or finances) to track it at the moment, so it had to go.

Goodbye :(

I need a new sig.

Shame you've had to part ways as I can now see why people love them, fantastic track cars and handle exceptionally well out of the box.

I'm currently in the midst of getting mine ready and will update once the latest bit of work is complete :)

It's recently had new braided lines (Matt Lewis) and ATE Typ200 fluid which makes it stop exceptionally well with Brembo HC discs and DS2500 pads :)

What have you replaced it with?

Nothing :(.

The yellow mirrors have gone. The OZ F1s are far better than the stock wheels, and 15" rather than 16" so cheaper tyres too. Its also lower, stiffer, louder, and stops better than when I bought it. Its also got a dent in it, overdue belts changing, got dodgy electrics and the ABS light it on, but shhh ;).

It got too unreliable to use for daily commuting, and we wanted something with 4 doors and a usable boot. So I've got a Skoda Octavia diesel on lease, and put the Clio on a limited mileage policy with plans to strip it out and go full on cheap track ****.

But alas, its not been on track for over a year, not moved for 5 months, and trying to buy a house means the money could be better used.

Hopefully when I get a house and settle in I will be able to have the fun of buying a new track toy and doing it all over again.

Sad times, I really really regret selling mine. I wish I'd went through the effort to bring it abroad with me.

Unlike yourself mines was unbelievable reliable and had done about 50-60k in my ownership.

It's gone to my cousin who wants it as a second track car as they currently have a 197 between 5 of them and they want another to avoid waiting around in the pits :).

Having see what they have done to the 197, my 172 will have done to it what I always wanted. The 197 is fully stripped with a roll cage, harnesses and all sorts. They recon the 172 will be well towards that by next weekend!

They have said I should join them at a track day, so I may yet get to drive it again :).

I went for one last blast in it yesterday and it just makes me smile. It's far from perfect and in reality isn't really that fast, but it's just raw fun with 4 wheels.
