Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Ah OK.

Has climate control, something I really wished I had specced from the factory!

Seems a bit overpriced to me and it's also not a "Cup-S". So the dealer isn't the brightest..

Seen this one? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202102199232195?

Things to consider with LCI cars:

Updated springs and dampers
Updated LSD
Updated ECU (the 275 Cup-S was the first with EU6 though with extra security)
Better Nav

I have, it’s 270+ miles away though. The one I was looking at is a mile up the road!

These engines are bulletproof a test drive would be best but you have to bear in mind you are not the only person interested they do not hang around for long!!

It’s not from a specialist, just a standard second hand dealer. It’s probably the quickest car they have in the forecourt. Going to look at it tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry, my local one, not the one linked!

Ok best of luck :)

Some things to keep in mind when you test drive it:
*Lots of turbo torque so don't be surprised if you spin up a wheel whilst applying lock (e.g. out of a roundabout)
*The TC can be very intrusive so turn if off if the weather allows
*It has engine oil temperature protection, so will beep at you and/or limit revs if you drive it hard before the oil is warm
*The "sport" mode button is hard to find, down by the light controls near your right knee. It changes throttle mapping and gives you the full 265bhp (250bhp in comfort mode)
* Lift off oversteer is very easy to provoke
* That particular car seems to be on CRAP tyres which might ruin it (buy PS4s immediately if you buy it)

Edit: Actually ignore me on the Sport/RS button. This car looks to be before the later ECU with switchable maps. So you just have traction control/ESC there to press (and stop start if that annoys you)

When I had my 265 Cup I made sure to find one with xenon headlights, as the standard headlights are really poor apparently. Oddly Renault removed the option to spec xenon headlights with the facelift.

The Cup chassis is very firm and you will be most aware of this at low speeds. The standard chassis might worth considering?

Good luck with your search, they are amazing cars!

I'll be aiming for a discount anyway, it's pretty steep given others around the country are newer. Either they can put good tyres on it or I'll want some money off

Currently looking at a few options for what to go for next from a Focus ST (2016)

Am I right in thinking the RS 280 NON TROPHY is a good by especially for more of an every day family use etc? Was pointed to this article at the time
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....hassis-2017-2020-review-forget-the-trophy?amp

I've noticed a few of the 280s have an optional pack that effects the suspension does that then go against what this article mentions

I don't have a clue what I'm on about tbh, any pointers appreciated. Looking at a budget of roughly 20-22k, also looking at Golf R but must say these look nicer

So went to look at the Megane, lovely car, Clutch was very springy but I got used to it and it wasn't any harsher in the ride than my Focus really. The Focus is the issue. The Dealer reckoned it had been in a rear end or rear left accident at some point and not repaired properly or repaired on the cheap as the rear quarter wheel arch was starting to rust which I'd missed and he reckoned the rear lights hadn't been secured properly as well as they likely didn't line up so were just left with one or two retaining clips to keep them in place. I've had it for 4 1/2 years and never so much as been in a minor bump so if it has been it's been before I bought it in a private sale from a policeman actually. The car certainly feels and drives straight and my mechanic who has done MOT's and servicing exclusively hasn't said anything or mentioned any suspicions. All a bit strange but he offered me £3250 for it, £750 less than I was hoping for which put a strain on the budget as I really was at the top end of my budget with this one.

To add to my other questions above, the tax thing? If the car was specced highly when new, it could be hit by a high tax charge or something if about £40k?

I'm assuming the Standard RS should be ok in that regard and the trophy is the one that suffers from that potentially?

Trophy & Cup or Cup-S are more track focussed models so suspension is harsher so probably not for the family (but you might love it!). Honestly your going to struggle to find one for £20-22K these get snapped up fast late 20s early 30s there are way more choices for some reason few cars around the 20-22K mark as most owners are so happy they keep them a long time :D Autotrader only has 2 in that price range right now....!

No std RS would be anywhere near £40K! £35-38K ish max with all options. Trophy - R is £72K new but you would struggle to find any used for less than £50K+ so not an issue to you! Think the tax is £265.

Excellent appreciate that thanks!

May have been getting wires crossed with the R!

Really not sure on Manual Or Auto, I was going manual but maybe auto is the way forward as they seem to have ditched manual altogether on the latest iteration. But then would a manual hold a bit more value down the line as they will be maybe harder to find?

Got 2 Trophys up the road at our local dealer but out of my range price wise.

Have been talking with a dealer half hour away about theirs which has miles on the higher end compared to others but the price is lower obviously.

Yeah 25-26k seems to be where I'm looking. I've had a think and that's pretty much what I'm willing to go with there's some good examples for that range at the mo.

280 RS seem harder to find around here
