Who here owns a Renaultsport?

Yeah 25-26k seems to be where I'm looking. I've had a think and that's pretty much what I'm willing to go with there's some good examples for that range at the mo.

280 RS seem harder to find around here

the 280 RS seems like gold dust to find especially at a reasonable price.

as I've noticed some are upwards of £26k but have a worse spec than those around the £22k range.

Yeah the 280 seem much harder to find. Got Trophys dotted all around us here but the prices range from 25-30k.

There's a trophy for about £24,500 but has 14k miles which seems a fair bit higher than any others on there?

I'm sure it's a non issue really, one owner and still under the average of a 2 year old car or bang on the average I guess?

Excellent appreciate that thanks!

May have been getting wires crossed with the R!

Really not sure on Manual Or Auto, I was going manual but maybe auto is the way forward as they seem to have ditched manual altogether on the latest iteration. But then would a manual hold a bit more value down the line as they will be maybe harder to find?

Got 2 Trophys up the road at our local dealer but out of my range price wise.

Have been talking with a dealer half hour away about theirs which has miles on the higher end compared to others but the price is lower obviously.
Manual is slightly faster overall top end difference is 3MPH I think. Either is fine really auto is obviously way easier to drive but manual offers greater control in the corners!

14K is nothing. One major issue with some cars is the battery life! Read this lengthy thread backwards. Several owners very vocal about it others say its flawless for years who to believe! DESS system issues - owners post here (actis solution 60533) - RenaultSportClub.co.uk

Why is my DESS battery flat? - RenaultSportClub.co.uk

Any new Megane RS 280/300 owners? - Page 34 - French Bred - PistonHeads UK

My takeaway is pre 2019 car batteries are fine.
If you use daily its fine many owners have thousands of miles with no issues.
2019-2021 has this issue which depending on how you use the car may or may be an issue you ever encounter.
Trickle charger (if you buy one) needs to be 4Amp max otherwise it fries the battery.
Disabling the stop\start feature greatly reduces failure (engine turns off when stationary).
Be mindful of how long the doors are open when engine is off & try not to use the radio either when engine is turned off.
Ask if the Actis solution 60533 has been applied to the car (which is Renaults fix for the rapid D.E.S.S battery drain).
New D.E.S.S battery is £600!!!
Old 2018MY battery weighed 15.9 KG. D.E.S.S weighs 8.3KG....go figure why its causing issues!!
Renault main dealer stance is if the car is not used regular you need to use a trickle charge otherwise its not covered under warranty at all.
Carry a battery boost pack just in case in your boot!
34 UK warranty claims on 500+ RS sold.
Mainly affects pre May 2020 Trophies. Anything after May 2020 has the improved battery software management (actis 60533 solution).
UK is the only major market with this issue!
Germany sells more RS and does not have this issue at all!
Dealers should fully charge the battery & maintain it on tickle until sold as new (many in UK clearly do not bother which is presumably how this issue arose!)
Any RS 280 & 300 non Trophy is fine this issue does not affect them.
Renault honour the battery if it fails under the 5 year warranty.

My understanding of the issue is that the D.E.S.S battery is way too small & if used a certain way will drain rapidly even stranding some owners at the roadside as it dies quickly without warning!

Renault are fully aware and say its partially fixed (actis solution 60533 is the renault codeword for it!) but some owners still constantly complain about it so who to believe!

Anyone know the tax per year on a RS 280 / 300? googling seems to give varying results (unless I'm just being stupid)

Im assuming about 150? Hope so, put a deposit on one today so fingers crossed it all works out

From new, i read the first year costs like £850 then £150 a year there after but please dont quote me on that, hopefully an owner could clear it u.

I came with a tax related question actually. The one im trying to go for is a 2020 car, used by renault. So once they hand it over to me, do i have to pick up any difference in the £850 first year tax or is that a one off payment by the original owner?

Its all a bit unclear. I checked with the dealer and the list price with its extras falls way under £40k so avoid the extra £350 a year tax there

What model did you go for RS300 Trophy?

Yeah! They let us take it out for half hour though said we could have it a few days if we wanted!

The dealership is bang in the middle of my commute so pretty much drove it home, back toward work then back to the dealer.

I found the ride was firm but felt solid(in the best way)

Love the interior. They say it's their demo version so it's got a fair bit of kit on. Noticed a ding on it right away which they are putting right anyway but otherwise in a lovely way.

What was nice is they had an Orange one too so could see the 2 colours side by side.

I think I really like both in their own way but definitely prefer yellow personally. Going back to my earlier driving years I always wanted a Yellow 106GTi. Just pops in the right light

That's what I thought also but saw some other conflicting messages.

How much did you end up paying in the end if you don't mind me asking (for the car)

booked in for a test drive this weekend for a 300 trophy

Yeah I have seen similar too, not sure now but will be sure to confirm with the dealer tomorrow and let you know.

Tbh I didn't go to view this one with the intention of buying as it was out of my comfortable range really. It was up for 29,995. 2020 with 4000 miles. Has the extras like the recaros, Bose system, rear parking camera etc. It was essentially their demo car.

Had a fairly nasty mark on a pillar, apparently they some how did that in their carwash on site the day before so are obviously sorting it.

Found a small very tiny indent on an arch too which is being put right aswell but otherwise it's essentially like new I guess, it looks the part.

Suggested 28,500 and left it with them while we went to crunch some numbers

They called back with 28,800, to which we ended up settling on 28,700, keeping in mind there are also admin fees which at that point I wasn't aware of.

Originally I had my eye on a 24,500 one in Bristol. Showed some interest then this morning I asked if we could just swing by and have a look. the dealer then kept messaging me and emailing getting a bit pushy about putting a holding fee on, claiming they had someone test driving it in an hour, then saying someone's finance company had just rang up to discuss the car and I need to put a holding fee down over the phone to secure it.

Ultimately that put me off wanting to even view it at all, so didn't bother. I'm sure it was genuine but just put me off really.

That one was a year older but had similar spec but 10,000 more miles. Looks like a lovely example and I'm sure it will be snapped up quick! Was manual, the one I went for was the auto in the end.

Not much in it but I think both have their pros and cons.

sorry rambled on there.

Which one are you looking at? Probably seen the ad over this past week myself

Beautiful aren't they!

Any tips? Can you help with our tax questions fee posts back :D

Thanks in advance

Before this I had a Clio 200, which was about £340 (i think) a year, this thing is only £150 a year.

I've not had any issues with the battery, only once has it come up saying start car, battery low and that was because I was sat in works car park waiting for about 15 minutes with the radio on, nothing has appeared since. This one has every option I think, and I got it for a bargain price, so haggle the dealers down. £26-28k is a decent price for a trophy. I paid at the lower end of that range, with 6k miles on the clock. Dealer said it was 6/10 condition wise, to me it is immaculate, so I don't know what they were referring to.

Stick it in sport or race mode, and it pops on every single downshift.

One thing I will say is the gearbox. In comfort or neutral mode, it is very lazy. Sat at a junction waiting to pull out, and I put my foot down to get out and it sometimes sits there for a good second before it realises I want to move. Sport mode is better, however it loves to hold onto gears, and will downshift unnecessarily. Race mode holds onto the gears till you get to redline :D

It's also a bit funny with certain DAB stations, ie Heart Somerset it keeps cutting out and losing signal, yet Heart UK is fine. Heart Somerset in my work van works fine.

It's also very keen to lock the car when you get out. When I get out the car at work and walk around to grab my bag, it will lock before I get past the bonnet. I haven't found a way yet to stop it or change the time it waits to lock.

Thanks! We were thinking £150 so that's good news :)

I tried sport on my short test today, the exhaust sounds had me grinning I must admit, and it's not too over the top. Feels it suits the car nicely and isn't obnoxious or anything.
