Who here owns a Subaru?

Looks respectable, but I'm unsure to why it hasn't sold for so long which makes me question the car.

The asking price is high, but it's a iconic car and does have a following. I may go view it, but I'm also browsing scoobynet for some examples.

I'd like a Wagon, but I can't find anything I like. This took my eye a few months back and I do like the way that it's light and standard look.

Do these have closed deck engines? I always thought red tops were closed deck.

Don't concern yourself about whether or not it has a closed deck block. Means nothing unless you're power chasing as the block casing is stronger. But a standard car, open deck, semi open deck or closed deck won't make the slightest difference :)

Cool.:) I looked at so many and I was starting to get bored where I was seeing the same ones over and over again and realising how long some had been for sale etc when one evening I logged on to Auto trader and came across mine. I stood out because it was only 9 miles from me, everything I was looking for, a decent price, really nice condition and completely standard. I literally rang them the next morning, arranged a viewing that evening and then put a deposit down on it shortly after. :D

I'm probably going to leave it standard for the time being but people keep telling me I'll get used to the power and wont be able to resist after that. :D

Oh yeah and i'm only the third local owner too. The last guy got bored of people trying to race him. Haha!

Let's see how long you last ;)

Not at all, I got it for £5550 which I thought was pretty decent? I'd been looking for a couple of months and this was the first one that had everything I was after.

That is a tidy price for what looks like a excellent condition.

I'm after a new car, after 4 fun years in a 1.2 clio, i'll see one car and I want that, then see another and now I want that, its difficult. :(

But have been looking at that shape impreza's.

The only advise I can give you is keep looking and one will come along with exactly what you want. :) I looked for a month but I'd been idly checking back before then too. I know what its like though, you find one but you wont like part of it, then you'll find another one and its not the right colour/has something else missing. Queue looking over and over.:D

Closed deck with 260PS. I'm might make a punt on it.

Re that RA - check the model code is correct and if you do view check it hasn't been bodged on. Also find out what turbo & gearbox the RA should have had for that year to confirm.

I had a WRC Type RA classic - it was very quick but low ratio was a pain.

These arrived last week

ae86b97a160011e3942f22000a9f140e_7.jpg

Whiteline 24mm rear anti roll bar and a decat downpipe.

The whiteline will be going straight on but the decat will stay in the garage till i get a few other bits so i can do it all and get a remap straight away.

Also pretty much finished off my track tyres with a track evening last week so dunno what to go for next, Federal 595RSR's look ok and am tempted by those nankang NS2R's

I'm a mess, i've gone from wanting a mx-5, to a EP3, to a Impreza,to a Supra, to a integra, to a e46 330i, to a 335i (depending if i get this job i've applied for), thinking more realisically back to a Impreza.

I will probably have a breakdown sooner or later, but i'm looking at impreza's now cause your is lovely :D

Have you got a front ARB yet? If not, fit the 24mm rear arb on the softest. Trust me when I say it makes the tail happy on aggressive turn in on medium without a front arb. Nearly caught me out a couple of times. Makes it nice and adjustable mid corner, but may be too tail happy off the throttle for some.

Haha! I know how you feel. :D I'd always wanted cars like a Skyline, GTO/3000, Supra, Impreza, 205GTi etc but after getting to the age where I can afford them the only ones that aren't all old and ruined or massively expensive are the Subaru's. If you manage to get an STi, you wont be disappointed. I couldn't comment on the standard WRX's but what I seemed to always read was that most people regret not getting the STi instead. (That said there are some tuned up WRX's about too but I wanted something standard and un-abused.)

Thanks for telling me about chassis code, the seller has put a picture up but isn't very clear. It matches that of a Type-RA '95 era, and turbo as far as I know is Mitsubishi TD05? Transmission is TY752VB3EA.

Where could I find these stamps with ease? Obviously on the units themselves but are they easily accessible?

So, I've owned the Impreza for a week now and I have some questions for you guys...

* The sound system - It isn't very good... :o Is it the head unit or the speakers at fault? Or a bit of both?!
* Tyres - I'm currently mismatched... Standard issue Bridgestones on the front and Dunlops Potenzas? on the rear. (Although they both have lots of tread left...) However, when I need to replace these, what should I go for? What do you guys recommend?

Other than that its all good. Really can't wait to wash it this weekend! (As sad as that sounds... :o:p:D:cool: )

Cheers
Andy

Seen a blob eye on Auto Trader..

138k 03 Reg 1 Owner..

Engine light and misfire? Too much of a risk? Or possibly simple fix, was thinking just getting as a little project..

Yes, the stereo is very average. It's a mixture of cheap headunit and cheap speakers. I'd change the head unit first and see if it works enough, then change the speakers if it doesn't.

Tyres: I no understand? Potenzas are made by Bridgestone? Best? Personally I'm with the Goodyear Eagle Asymmetrics crew, but some people prefer the Potenzas (RE070s IIRC). Depends on your preferred "feel": Eagles has softer ride, and slightly less grip in the dry (but progressive breakaway). Potenzas have a harsher ride, but better slightly better dry grip (but more abrupt loss of grip). Those are the only two I've tried.

I've got Bridgestone RE050A's on the front and S001's on the back as they're the replacement for the 50A's.

The RE070's were too compromised for every day use for me as there pretty hopeless in the cold and wet, i do however have them on my 2nd set of track wheels as they're a decent tyre for track work as they're just so cheap for part worns!

Could anyone who owns a wagon tell me if they think a double bass would fit in the back? They're about 6x2.5x1.5 ft. Obviously narrower at the top than they are at the bottom! :p

I'm in the market for an "interesting" car but I need to be able to fit my bass in the back. For reference I'm currently using a Mk3 Mondeo Hatch and can fit it diagonally in the back of that.

Thanks

I see... I'll start with a new head unit and go from there then. :)

Haha! Sorry, I think I probably got confused after reading evos tyre test the other day and seeing all the different makes... Funnily enough I think they found asymmetric eagle f1's the best too. So I think I'll go with those once mine wear out.

Thanks. :)
