Who is getting the New Mac Pro

I'll get one for at work just because I can :) I want one on the desk! I don't think all the mac pros will be updated to these though.

For most of my graphics/web stuff I actually do myself, my MBP plus a 24" screen is sufficient.

Really hate the new pro design. Just looks like a cheap plastic trash can!

I'm always a little bemused when people say that. It looks like a rubbish bin (I'm not American!) because it's small and round?

Looks like a ridiculously powerful Mac that's been taken out of a huge metal chassis and placed into something that none of us thought was possible until they announced it.

Huge over-simplification of the process to call it a bin!

Are they making the EU ones in the USA too? I would have thought Cork, Ireland, but happy to be proved wrong!

I'm going to assume that they're all made in the same place, yeah. Can't see the point in setting up multiple factories when it's going to be a niche product and part of the selling point is that it's made in the States.

Anyone here getting a new Mac Pro? If so, what spec are you getting and what will you be using it for? Also what, if any accessaries will you be getting?

Just placed my order but I won't be getting till Feb :(

Are you getting some discount on that, as I just looked at the Apple site and it came to over 8k

According to this Hollyhill hasn't manufactured anything since the original iMac. It was transformed into a "services centre". It's listed as "Apple distribution international ltd". So maybe it's their European base for EU distribution. I don't think Cork port is that big or busy compared to other ports in Europe, so they probably get tax breaks or kick backs (as well as all the tax breaks and loop holes they got setting up in Ireland compared to the UK or other European countries) to bring their cargo through there, rather than if they were using something (or setup somewhere) like London gateway, Southampton, Rotterdam or even Dublin port.

Perhaps this is a better perspective.

Mac pro ash tray.

:D

I can completely understand the light-up ports because it's Apple, but designing it to spin around to get to them just makes me think whoever came up with that idea has never touched a Mini DisplayPort connector before - the things fall to pieces when you breathe on them, I'd dread to think what happens to them if you yank them all sideways.

Spinning the Mac Pro will put a sideways load on all the connectors. Apple promote the light up ports as letting you spin the thing around to plug extra stuff in, the chances of being able to do that without damaging anything is slim. The USB, power, ethernet etc will most likely be fine, but I don't rate the Thunderbolt / Mini DisplayPort ability to take that sort of use.

Its £6,5k with Tax but edu discount as I am also still a full time student.

The reason the new Mac pro is cylindrical is actually for design rather than aesthetics. It eliminates dead air spaces that you find in square/rectangle shaped boxes.

So don't do things that'll cause it to break…

It's designed to spin round with the cables plugged in, spinning it round with Mini DP things plugged in will damage either the socket or the plug. What aren't you getting about that?

The cost is insane, but I personally think the design is genius. Its so small and yet wonderfully powerful.
