Who is getting the New Mac Pro

I love the size of this thing :D

It will be interesting to see how this develops, whether the Mac Pro will change to fit what people want it to be (CUDA) or whether we're going to see applications use OpenCL to work better on the Mac Pro. Same for Thunderbolt accessories.

Im thinking about getting one too. A Low end one though as having just priced up a high end replacement iMac (replacing my 24" 2008 iMac) the Pro isnt 'that much more' (ignoring the screen, and i will just get a decent 27" monitor)

May hang on though to see a few out there before taking the plunge. The more and more i look at it though the more tempted i am to just place the order.

I'm going to be purchasing 4 or 5 for work in the next month. I'm excited to see what they're like. Will strip one down and check out the internals for my self as i'm intrigued by it's design.

A single fan at the top of the Mac Pro’s cylindrical chassis pulls in cool air from the bottom of the machine and exhausts it, quietly, out the top.

This would be perfect for my bathroom to get rid of condensation, just ordered one now.

Ordered mine now. 6 core, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD and D300.

Just need to find an appropriate monitor now!

Hold out for a bit, there were/are a load of 4K monitors being shown at CES atm, plus there's compatibility issues with which ones work with the Pro, although I suspect they'll be sorted out eventually (or they'll just release a 4K/'Retina' Thunderbolt Display).

I like the design on these but the idea of having to add things externally seems messy to me, however the reason I won't be replacing my 2012 MP with one is simply because it's not really much of an upgrade over the 2012 MP considering the price. The new CPUs are great but seriously, EIGHT HUNDREAD POUNDS to upgrade a build from the standard D300's to a pair of D700's? That's not £800 for the D700's it's £800 after the saving of not having the D300's has been knocked off, don't get me wrong I'm used to paying through the nose to Apple but this is a whole new level even for them.

It would be excusable if the D700's were re-named FirePro W9000 cards like Apple want us to think, but we're not stupid, the D700 is blatantly a renamed HD7970 with custom drivers (Kind of like the FirePro M8900 being a HD6970m with altered drivers). It's like adding insult to injury then charging you for both lol.

Saw this in store for the first time.. it is absolutely glorious! Shame I have no justifiable need for it!

We've now got one at work. It's not that much faster than a 15" rMBP when configured with only four cores. We're seeing performance increases of around 25%.

It looks like you're going to need to add some serious upgrades to the base model if you want to justify the purchase.

Not that much faster = 25% then im happy! (he says coming from a 2008 iMac) The increase will of course depending on what your running and whether it utilises everything.

In terms of upgrades then it depends on what you use it for. I went for the 6 code D300 option for photoshop and Lightroom as thats all it really needs.

so i'm looking to get one of these next month. The painful thing is the monitor. I have a old apple cinema display and a imac. And now i have to get a new one.

Would any monitor with a mini display port work?
