to keep Barca out over two matches, you have to be pretty darn good

Terry was better than Rio a few years ago but he has gone down hill slightly as Rio has got better

Carragher hasnt been near the best in 3 seasons or more

wouldnt have Cole even if you paid me to chose him - too over-rated imo, prefer Bridge myself (even though he doesnt get enough opportunities)

Think Woody is a fabulous defender but way too injury prone, King the same

Lescott as a full back desrves chances, always think he looks a bit of a liability for England in the centre though

Up to his injury in 2007 Gary Neville was an excellent RB for club and country, I just cant see him getting more than a few games here and there from now on, Im not sure he will ever be fully fit again

Really hope Simpson lives up to his potential - he could be phenomenal in a few years time given enough playing time to develope

(I would prefer to see WB in the centre, but cant think of a decent RB with anything like the experience all round to be equal to the others)


EDIT - DOHHH completely forgot about Richards, prefer him in the centre but he can do a decent job on the right too (different style to WB but just as effective defensively and attacking)

As much as I love the guy, Carra aint been playing his best for 2 seasons. Last season was the worst season for him since Rafa started. I think he'll gradually be pushed out to the right now we have Skrtel and Agger.

Don't understand why so many people are saying Carragher hasn't been at his best for 2/3 years. Last year he was poor but the previous few seasons he was outstanding.

Thats it because Terry and Carra are great defenders but would not get a game against Puyol, Nesta, Maldini etc.

ashley cole wouldn't start a game in the current arsenal squad, clichy is miles ahead of him right now ....as is evra.

and that's just he EPL we're talking let alone the other leagues, a-hole.cole ruined himself moving to chelsea.

as far as the best english defender right now, RIO by a stretch ....it's not even close tbh - carragher relies on pulling defenders and conning the ref these days and terry isn't the player he was a couple of seasons back.

king doesn't warrant a mention until he can play more than a handful of games per season.

A lot of people mentioning Richards, I don't think he's up there yet. I think he's probably one of the picks to break through into the top lot with Rio/Cara but I wouldn't say he's there yet.

He still looks a little unfinished at times, but I think he'll end up being a brilliant talent.
