Technically I would go for Mark Knopfler.
Think there are lots of good guitarists out there. Have you noticed that most of the ones mentioned are older more established players?

Most newer guitarists play indie and nu-metal, so there isn't much of an oppurtunity for them to show off (if they have any talent at all). The guys out of Dragonforce are technically very good though (musically a bit *too* fast and samey though).
