I don't get it, the amount of people lapping up the complete balls he was posting!
My favourite was when he argued the throat wasn't part of the respiratory system. Despite the NHS and various medical professionals telling him it was. The mods then told me off for sarcastically referring to his amazing medical knowledge

I might have it a bit wrong as I stayed out of most of the stuff he was posting but I think he spent quite a bit of time at first building up people's confidence (I'm always dubious of people who use terms like "son" a lot like the way he did) and when it came to his later postings I think some didn't want to admit they'd been fooled. See it all the time with cons/scams.
indeed, i know hindsight is a wonderful thing but a quick read of the posted thread would have been enough for most sane people to have called bs. i see a still highly active poster in the thread make mention of having spoken to him. i assume he was one of the ones taken in by the bs! that must have been a mortifying situation
anyone ever know what became of him?
or links to anymore such fanciful posters or stories, i love reading about these walter mitty types.
I'm sure one of the guys nearly bought a car off him, I'm sure money even got swapped etc. Also he claimed to have done checks on cars, and people were buying them etc.
He was either deluded, or a good con man.
I think it was a bit of both.

I have suspected a couple of other forums members exaggerate a bit/tend to brag a bit about supposedly being some sort of big shot type etc... I reckon some of it is based in half truths... like if someone had turned up there the guy probably would have been throwing money around... though being a bit flashy in a bar certainly doesn't require 50 million!
Of course there are also a handful of members on here who are the real deal, don't need to tell tall tales about their extravagant lifestyle but simply post their supercars/other purchases etc...

Yeah - I mean I could do one night out throw around a lot of money without having to worry about it and appear like I was worth 50 million... but doing that night after night like someone with 50 million to play with... nope.
In my experience probably most people are a bit liberal with the details online for various reasons - not necessarily about giving the impression they are a big shot.
My impression was he didn't set out to con anyone as such - just keeping up the appearances of his lies eventually led to the clash of his fabricated persona and the real person who was far less scrupulous.

They probably do it to some extent in real life too, albeit there are more constraints on how much they can spew BS with people they actually know. I mean there is the old angler bragging about the size of the fish he caught, the kid in school who was adamant he's not a virgin... he's got a really hot girlfriend but you don't know her because she goes to another school etc.. (well that was back in the day, I guess social media kills that sort of thing off) etc..etc..
Some people are overly worried about their ego, perceived status and so engage in a whole load of BS:
Dunno about school age but it still goes on - loads of people all over instagram some with 100s of hangers on lapping it up trying to sell they live some kind of exotic lifestyle from occasionally blagging their way into VIP areas and onto rich guy's yachts for a selfie, etc.
