What are you lot paying to insure your ST220s? I've been a named driver on the Mrs' policy for last 7 years so I never built up any NCBs. :( Cost me 900 fully comp to insure my ST220.

Insurance does depend on location, just try the main stream and then try some of the specialists, Adrian Flux and Chris Knott were both very competitive for me through my ownership, especially with the mods mine had.

I paid £700 for mine at 27.

And there isn't a better car for the money :)

Hmmph I'm 40. I should have shopped around more tbh but I was lazy and just let the price comparison sites do the work for me. Every company was quoting 2000 grand upwards with the exception of MoreThan which came in at 900 so I just took it. I'll do my research more thoroughly next year.

One day I'll replace this car, but other than a 5 or M series there's nothing that interests me in the big saloon bracket. Nor have I see anything that offers such a favourable price/performance/maintenance costs ratio.

Ouch that is expensive, I managed to insure mine @ 23 with a chunk of mods, after only driving for a year, and 1 year NCB for £800.Obviously depends on your postcode, but I don't even pay that for my 911.

In terms of mods I'm thinking that upgradng the brakes offers the best returns initially? Also been talking to a firm re getting an MIJ custom exhaust, remap and K&N filter upgrade for 850 quid. I havent shopped around yet so if anyone knows of a similar package elsewhere let me know.

But the performance returns of getting the brakes upgraded seems to outweigh anything else from what Ive read.

Brakes were one of the best things I upgraded, and if you can get a set of calipers fairly cheaply, are an inexpensive way to make you feel so much safer.

Filter and Exhaust upgrades make the car sound nicer mostly rather than offering any real gains. Think that deal for exhaust you mention is at a very good price. Although the K&N is prone to heat soak, so I would personally leave it and try to find a pipercross VIS kit.

It's a bad car to modify really so brakes and exhaust are obvious favourites.

You can spend £1000 for only a 30bhp increase.

They do sound epic with a decent exhaust though.

I've heard one with a Miltek exhaust and a K&N filter and to be honest I thouht it sounded a bit lame. The kind of exhaust note I like is that from a Scooby. Don't know if thats possible with the V6 though?

Am I the only one who has no issue with the standard brakes, aside from them looking a little lost inside the 18" wheels? They have plentiful stopping power

Not just you Howard, I'm the same, more than happy with them. They stop well, and actually have some progression rather than a lot of modern cars where your big toe can be used to go from "nothing" to "full brakes".

I might well mod them to ASBOs at some point in the future, but it will be for experimentation's sake rather than any feeling of needing to uprate the brakes.

Catback exhaust is my other potential mod in the future. Don't intend to do anything else to it - if I wanted something quick to do a lot of tinkering on I'd have got something older, cheaper, and easier to mod!

I think you've bought the wrong car

Don't be daft :p

Weighing up what few modding options there are for the ST220 is all part of the fun. I may also leave it at factory and concentrate on the ICE. In total I'm prepared to spend circa 1000 in upgrades or ICE. Other than essential ongoing maintenance that is.

I'm very happy with my purchase thanks ;)

Its probably a matter of driving styles. I've come from a very light and basic 1.4 Focus so I probably tend to underestimate required stopping distances given the considerable jump in weight and performance.

The standard ST220 brakes do feel a bit weak as the pedal needs to be pushed hard to get the most out of them.

However in an emergency stop when you stamp them the car does stop pretty well, thankfully. :o

They didn't put anything special on the ST220 did they, think they are just standard Mondeo brakes.
