Who owns a Mondeo ST220 / ST TDCI?

Anyone want any bits of exhaust? :D

Well that was fun! Old exhaust came off fine, building the new one in-situ was fiddly but fine. No one told me, however, that there's an un-used hanger on the rear subframe which the new JP exhaust's rear-most section needed to attach to, so I had to go down to my local car shop and get an appropriate hanger. Had to put some exhaust paste around the joints as well to stop them blowing slightly...

Then I took it for a drive

The video isn't great, the poor little camera is drowned by wind noise, but you get the idea. The main points are that it is still very much refined, but with the addition of a lovely burble at lower RPMs when driving in stop start traffic around town, etc. This is wonderfully pleasing to me! At the higher rev range there's a more pronounced roar which again is very nice. It makes no more noise at highway speeds - it's quieter if anything!

Very happy with it all-in-all, it sounds like a car with a proper engine should sound, not just the whiny engine noise on part-throttle :)

It fell off

All done. The light and shadows might make them look wonky but they're symmetrical IRL. As symmetrical as I could get them anyway :p

Actually no, 'cos it took me about 5 hours. I didn't fancy rushing it in an evening especially since I had to go and buy some exhaust paste and a hanger etc. :)

Sorry... Missed that! Was your unused hanger crushed a bit, like mine was? Had to get the crowbar out. Not sure why it's there if the OEM system doesn't have it? 'one-size-fits-all-mk3-mondeos' subframe?!

I love it. Lovely noise. Refined yet.. Awesome. Definitely want to drive it more at the moment haha, off out with the GF and some of her friends later... "I'll pick you up, we can pick them up too!" :D

He's fitting the ST220 exhaust to a 4 pot Mondeo? Nice..

Chopped mine up as I cba to sell it, got £34 for the centre caps though!

I was going to a while back but I couldn't be arsed. I might do it when I have a spare Saturday morning as well.

Lazy so and so :p

I will order some gearbox oil and do mine I think, it's done 99k and I'm sure it'll benefit from fresh oil! I have one of those pumps but the last time I tried to use it, it just leaked out everywhere, so it could be interesting..

Still a man of leisure during the week then? :p

Btw, no rattles of any sort from my engine when it's idling! I noticed at the weekend and thought of you :D

Mmm JP

Yep that's how all the Bluetooth equipped units work :)

Pick something from Alpine or Pioneer that's in budget from www.caraudiosecurity.com and it'll be a big improvement over the stock Sony unit. I'd recommend a set of Focal IC570 speakers for the front doors too. They drop straight in and are an excellent quality replacement for the stock units.

I used an Autoleads fascia adaptor and the finish is very much the same. Ive only got a single DIN init though.

I don't actually use Bluetooth in my car, no need for it :)

As long as you buy the right stalk adapters consisting of the control box and the "patch lead" for your stereo manufacturer, it'll work fine with the steering wheel controls.

Most will come with a mic, the best way is to route it up the A-pillar up to the roof lining or similar. Tis simple enough :)

Look a few pages back in the thread where Imy fitted a double-din unit, it wasn't plain sailing but he managed it in the end - some of the fascia kits aren't great and there isn't much room back there. But I have no direct experience I'm afraid.

It's probably easiest to run the mic cable down the passenger side A pillar - remove the glovebox etc and you'll be able to run the cable under the dashboard. There's plenty of guides on taking things apart etc on www.fordwiki.co.uk but once you get the car you can always ask here :)

The door cards are easy to remove - there's screws round the edge, one inside the arm rest / handle (you have to remove the little L-shaped insert), one behind a little round plastic blanking insert inside the door pull and one inside another blanking insert where the door mirror is. Then it just lifts off and gives you full access to the speaker.

I get ~20-22 around town depending on traffic and between 33 and 37 on a long run depending on traffic and how much overtaking is happening. That's sticking to 70mph. It's not that uneconomical for what it is. It's most likely faster than a stock S14.

The mondeo has more power, more torque, more displacement, faster 0-60, higher top speed speed and an about equal quarter mile time. The odds are in it's favour.

It's chain driven, so that's one less thing to worry about. They're reliable overall yes, but there have been a few reports of big end bearing failures - just keep the oil fresh and full :)

The MMT6 box is solid and the clutches and DMFs don't tend to fail prematurely.

Depends how it's been driven really. Clutch should last to 100k without abuse but depends on the driver.

Only you can say whether or not you wanna get rid of the 200 if you're not enjoying it or it isn't suitable any more.

How much power does yours have?

4k should get you a nice facelift (mid 2003 onwards) for sure.
