Just looking at the current contenders being touted in the rags over the course of the last few weeks.
Current contenders being

  • Sam Alardyce
  • Alan Curbishley
  • Stuart Pearce

Do these people have the necessary calibre to take the England team onto the next level when Sven gets put out to pasture in the Summer. Some players feel that the above three do not have the necessary experience in European or International football to really have the tactical knowledge. However I look at Franz Beckenbauer who led Germany to World cup victory in his first management role. There was that Arrigo Sacchi of AC Milan and lead Italy to the semis in the World cup. So it shows you dont have to be an experienced manager or top flight player to be a good manager.

I know some fans bemoan the lack of pride and passion in England displays. That only gets you so far though. Under Keegan we had Pride & Passion but were tactically inept and the players werent technically good enough Moreover you look at some of the top footballing nations. They have technical ability as well as the pride and passion

So are the above guys good enough or do you think we should go for a foreign coach. Personally I think a foreign coach would work its just Sven was the wrong choice.

Gilly could we have a poll please ?

Pearce would be the only one of them I would consider , though experience is the obvious downside . even with the lack of experience if we had to go for an English manager then he would be my choice

I think it should be Big Sam.
He knows how to use his players well as shown with Bolton with their tactics, he has good experience as a manager and is passionate about his job.

Last choice for me would be Stuart Pearce, he hasn't got enough experience yet imo.

so long as the manager is English I am not too worried, will be better than Sven

definitely stuart pearce.

his short stay at man city has been fantastic... he has a very good character and will be the sort of person that can pick anyone up after a lousy performance.

so far his tactical knowledge has been pretty good.. although it hasnt been that long to judge properly.

his motivational and man management skills must be top notch due to his character

i honestly wouldnt mind either alan curbishley or stuart pearce, but out of the two id rather see stuart pearce managing england

Out of those 3, Pearce without a doubt. I loved him as a player & you just know he'd put everything he had into the job.
I don't care much for foreign football so couldn't comment on foreign managers, I'd still like O'Neill though.

Of those three, and possibly anyone, I'd go with Pearce. He has a lot of commitment, enthusiasm and passion. Maybe not the most experienced but I'd like to see him get the job.

I'm the same, and I think would rather we go for another foreign coach at the moment, as none of the listed names particularly impress me. Hiddink would be my ideal choice.

Out of them 4, Gus. Allardyce, Pearce and Curbs aren't up to the job for me, all decent enough Premiership managers, but this is a step too far in my opinion.

agreed,

i wouldnt have any of them, think you should add "other" to the vote.

if i was forced to pick one tho it would be between Big Sam and Pearce.

Don't be fools, if you would prefer to see other names then give them. It was only the OP and one other I took the names from because thats all thats been requested.

Out of those names only Gus Hiddink comes close. I fear for England if Fat Sam comes in. Can you imagine the type of football we would play, urgh.

Aye but if you want a good football playing manager there aint many about

Glenn Hoddle anyone ?
