i am a Glaswegian, and living in England for 6 years, and i regulary go into the pub when there is an England game on wearing my Scotland top, to show support for your boys. So i thought i would give my 2p worth :)

does it really matter if the next England manager isnt an Englishman?

The most sucessful manager of recent years has undoubtedly been Sven. I think this whole stiff upper lip thing has got to go, what you really need is a continental manager who can help bring more pace to your team, the prem is arguably the best league in the world, and again in recent years this has been down to a change of style of the "English" game, with it now having more flair, and less ...dare i say it... stodginess.

Physco doesnt have the experience, but undoubtedley has the passion and the drive for such a post ...

but if i had to pick a home grown manager, it would be none of the above choices.

I think Martin O'Neil , ex of Celtic (boo hiss) could do fantastic things with the English national team

:)

Hiddink is clearly the best choice out of that list but everyone seems to be on the 'New manager has to be british' boat so I doubt it will be him. Keegan was English as well and look at how the fans got him to become manager and how they made him resign as well. The board shouldn't look too much at the fans because sorry to say they always will moan no matter what. They should select a manager based on how good he is, not on whether he is English.

A shame he might miss out because out of that list he would have England playing the best football, you just have to look at some of the performances of South Korea and PSV and it is really refreshing to see teams play like that.

Out of those names only Gus Hiddink comes close. I fear for England if Fat Sam comes in. Can you imagine the type of football we would play, urgh.

Heskey, Davis and Crouch upfront with the ball being pumped up field for 90 mins :D

Gus Hiddink for me. All the English managers wont be able to cut it. Fact of the matter is they will play English football which wins nothing. Tried and tested for many years. Sven plays English football, but to be fair he hasn’t got a clue about football.

Allardyce will just play like he does at Bolton, one dimension.
Pearce will just play the typical English brute football which England has seen time and time again.
Curbishley has done well at club level but can’t see him doing such a good job with England, he can falter quite easily, we seen it with Charlton and you will see it with England.

You need a tactician, not someone who throws a ball on the pitch and expect them to just play.

I haven't really read through this thread but I have to say that for me the best manager on the list is Hiddink. I'd love it to be an Englishman but for pure quality Hiddink all the way. Only problem is he's the guy i'd wanted to replace Fergie when he steps down at United.
