Who thinks Coca-Cola christmas advert is the start of christmas?

Who thinks Coca-Cola christmas advert is the start of christmas?: is a completely stupid ******* idiot with **** for brains :D

Why? Christmas is a massive commercial holiday, the times of it being a nice pagan holiday are long gone, first stolen by the christians and subsequently stolen by the large corporations. Why shouldn't the coca cola advert be the start of Christmas?

Personally Christmas is one of the worst times of year, boring and all you do is spend time with relatives either you have seen consistently throughout the rest of the year or that you didn't want to see for the rest of the year... And then there is the major part (in most peoples eyes it seems) where you spend a fortune on presents, usually from a list that someone put together, having to wait months to get what they want because they need stuff for people to buy them for.Christmas... Yeah scruge. Give me another time of year when you don't have to do that but do it all because you want to...

Regardless of the "pagen/jesus" meaning of Christmas, the meaning of Christmas has evolved, and yes it is commericalised, but what holiday isn't? we are a mass comsumption society.

To me Christmas is about giving and recieving, I love seeing my families surprise when they open their presents and I also love getting stuff from my family, yes it's nice to get things, but I know my family like to see my excitement as shake the box to try and guess whats inside before I shred the wrapping paper into confetti lol

You have to admire what Coke have managed to do though. I know people that don't even drink coke or any soft drinks to declare that it is Christmas because they saw a Coke advert. It's stunning marketing.

Quite why they don't bring a couple of massive american trucks over and nail lights to them and drive them around the motorways baffles me. Relatively cheap advertising and it would be all over youtube in hours.

1st December is always the start of Christmas for me :). Then the "holiday spirit" doesn't end till roughly the 5th January when all the left overs of big meals and parties is usually eaten by xD.

lol what the meaning of Christmas has evolved?

im pretty sure its still about the Birth of jesus Christ and has been for 2010ish years.

No, and I think it's quite sad and pathetic that peoples lives could be governed by when a multi-national company decide to roll out an advert to sell fizzy drinks.

And I'm not humbug when it comes to christmas, I really like christmas but I just fail to understand this 'tradition' that seems to have become popular in the last few years.

The best thing about this advert is that i just delight over people like you getting all worked up over Coca Cola.

Next year they should have Mary being refreshed by an ice cold coke on her travels around Slough looking trying to book a room in the travelinn, or whatever the made up story is.....that would be lovely....

Well, not so much. What is the link between Santa and Jesus anyway ?

There was a winter festival around this time way before you christians saw fit to invent some myth around it.

OK so I think the Christmas adverts with the lorries rolling through a little town marks the start of Christmas. Does anyone else get excited by this advert? Or do you look forward to some other sign to mark the start of Christmas?

Not me but the Mrs and kids reckon it does!! :o

Think they do actually, at least somewhat. You can see the trucks in various places, they are in York on the 4th i think...

Not to everyone, with the multi-ethic society we live in a lot of people who celebrate Christmas don't do it because of Jesus.

Although I am Christian (officially) in our house, Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus, it's about giving presents and spending time with your family, and the yearly panto trip on boxing day.

See no sign on jesus anyway, we don't even have a star or angel on the top of the tree

Not only do Coca Cola have the advert associated with Christmas,

Before Coca Cola got involved in Christmas, Santa wore a green outfit, it was Coca Cola that changed it to red. How's that for good marketing

This is a silly discussion, its like me saying that Easter isn't about Jesus's crucifixion and rebirth, its about eating chocolate.

Depends who you ask, but I've never been to church on easter, what the hell to chocolate eggs have to do with Jesus anyways? (Remembers South Park Episode - Fantastic Easter Special)

This is an urban legend, the above link is from a 1902 magazine showing him in red and white.

I had heard that it was a myth, but I Wasn't sure

My mate is swears by this being the start of christmas.

To me its doesnt start untill december.

I'm not religious so Xmas has nothing to do with God/Jesus for me. Our family tradition is getting together, exchanging gifts and enjoying a good meal and each others company. I'm sure there are many other families out there who see it the same way. Just because it doesn't fit in with the supposed original meaning of the holiday doesn't mean it isn't an important day for us. The coke advert is something I remember seeing as a kid over Xmas so it's all part of Xmas, however it doesn't make me want to go out and buy coke.
