Who's getting a 7*** Series Card or Nvidia equivalent

smaller resolutions seldom benefit much from new generations.
I expect these to be for 2560x1440 and eyefinity and add a much more fluid gaming there.
50% increase with eyefinity resolutions would be good.

Hmmm, I may have to look at my settings then, as Serious Sam 3 runs like a dog with any eye candy switched on :(

maybe i'll have access to the MM by the time they're out just in time for people to sell there old ones off lol

Start Spamming the forums lol..

I'd love a new gfx card and have been waiting... Just hope AMD dont pull our eyes out over the cost... Will be looking to off load my I5 2500K for Ivybridge too... but i expect a lot of people will be doing that too.

This all makes me LOL very much. But given I am incredibly cynical I will offer my thoughts.

1. No GPU has ever lived up to the hype. No GPU.

5 series Radeons came about as close as it got, but price for price performance was no different. A 5770 cost what a 4870 did, and was pretty much identical pound to performance.

2. There is no way that AMD are going to give out a free lunch, especially if Nvidia have nothing to compete with at that time. What I mean is AMD are not going to give us a card twice as fast (which is what seems to be going around) as a 6970 for 6970 money. It just isn't going to happen so calm down dear. Whatever level it performs at? you will be paying for, trust me. Especially with AMD's financial situation being what it is.

3. It is supposed to use half the power of a 6 series per peformance level, yet, the card pictured has a 6 pin and an 8 pin the same as a 6970.

4. The cooler is fugly. The back of the card looks pretty hideous too. Though looks should never come into buying a part they often do. I wouldn't put that thing within a mile of my PC.

5. Shortages. Every single GPU release ever has been marred with shortages, followed by price gouging at every level. If Nvidia do not respond immediately then you can bet your bottom dollar AMD will hike the prices. As I said before, you will pay for every single FPS of performance that card has to offer.

6. New items (hot off the press) and good value do not mix. You always pay for the fact that you have something new and improved (if there is even any improvements at all). You'd be better off waiting for a new product to release before buying the current item. That way you will save a good chunk of money.

7. New hardware releases are usually marred with bugs and or problems. Nvidia 4 series cards are now a fair chunk faster than they were when they were released, and have established drivers. New products do not (though Nvidia are currently hitting the drivers hard for 5 series owners, and screwing 2 series owners in the process).

So those are my thoughts. Time will tell the rest :)

Snap. horrible 4870 is showing its age now. lol

Too lazy to check, but have we seen this?

$549 for the 7970 is a bit steep, especially with the UK prices......

From that article:

"Sources say that HD 7970 can play Battlefield 3 at 60 FPS with each and every setting set to the maximum at a resolution of 1080p or 2560×1600.

Would be very interested to know who these 'sources' are.
