Who's going to a Grand Prix in 2012?

We always camp at Whittlbury Park, where do the others "campers go?

I'm too old for proper camping now so we just hire a nice big camper van for the weekend ;)

We go in the SRC members campsite, close to Luffield, have to pay to become a member but then get 10% of tickets and the campsite is a bit less hectic than others :D and the showers and toilets are kept pretty clean.

Only doing Friday at Silverstone this year. First time in 8 years I wont be going to a race :(. But other commitments and Goodwood mean it would be a bit of a stretch.

Aim is for Monza with a week elsewhere in Italy too next year though :D

I picked up a few lads on the way back from Spa on race day last year who wanted a lift to their campsite... they said the place had run out of water on the friday!

Hope it's not the same one you're going to!

I think we are staying on the elephant campsite, anyone camped here ?

Yeah I stayed there last year. Christ it was wet.

Get there early - Wednesday afternoon/evening is a good plan as it will be empty. It fills up fast through Thursday and if you get there too late you'll be left on a slope in the mud. Try to get to the top right hand side of the field directly in front of the main gate as its relatively flat there and the water runs off - the rest of the campsite turned into a bog by sunday last year, in particular in the lower fields.

The owner told us that one year the tents below the power pilons became live and some people got electrocuted so avoid that bit of the field. lol

The facilities are excellent, always spotlessly clean and loads of hot water, the staff friendly and helpfull (if a bit mad! ;) ). Its quite a hike to the track though but don't be fooled into thinking that you must enter at La Source (its one hell of a trek up the hill), you can actually get in at Radillon from Friday onwards, although it doesn't look like it from the approach (looks like Pit crew only).

Get ready for plenty of wasps and crappy overpriced trackside food - they only seem to sell waffles (which are delicious in moderation), chips (6 euro! + 1 euro for a spoon of sauce!) and the most horrid hot dogs I have ever eaten (6 Euro!) so make sure you take plenty to eat. The beer on sale on track is not bad but again, pricey.

The charcuterie in Franchorchamps village is great if you are stuck.

There are some basic supplies available in the campsite shop, and they are priced well, but run out pretty fast. There's an excellent little pub about 5 minutes walk away from the campsite that is riotous on Friday and Saturday night - go there, its brilliant!

The best place to see the action IMHO is from Pouhon. This is an area you can get into with an open ticket on the large bank at the double left hander. We had gold 4 seats at Eau Rouge and to be honest Pouhon was a better spot. Could have saved a fortune there. I did get to see Webber do Alonso at the bottom of Eau Rouge tho last year - quality.

Our plot - felt a bit guilty by Friday morning regarding the space we took up as everyone else was jammed right in... Still, benefits for getting there early.

Oh how I miss Spa :(. I went in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Can't afford it this year though so just doing Friday at Silverstone to get my F1 fix.

Saving for Monza next year :)
