Didn't get chance to measure the thermals until last night but the whole card is freaking scorching hot when its been under full load. I don't know why but it appears my fan is not speeding up?

I'm keen to get some overclocking done now but with stock temps like that I think I will need to get something sorted out. The system its in is actually pretty cool so I would hate to imagine what would happen if someone put this card into a cramped overheating case?

Is everybody running the fan manually or what? I'm still trying to get my head around Rivatuner to see if I can automate the fan a bit better

Can't say I'm happy about the card running so hot, even though everything has been stable 94°C just seems to high lol! :D

[edit] There is some good information in this thread if your interest in how to cool your graphics card better, even if your not an 8800GT owner you may be able to pickup some handy 'know how' on using Riva Tuner etc.

mines as hot as he bleeding wharehouse its sitting in.... damn you (etailer....)

Mine just disintegrated . Ho, hum, back to the 2900 I go :( :p. If I had one that is......

Seriously though, the GTX's can be just as hot but not as bad as that. Saying that, it was documented about 90'C heat in a few reviews so your not ridiculously far off from what the reviewers were getting.

NoobZilla here :D

I think mine ran about the same temps with a silent fan. I would forget your temps and let the card do its own thermal mangement. I'm sure once it reaches a certain threshold the fan will start to spin faster.

Stop messing and get them clocks up :D

I'd be interested to know what the temperatures are on the eVGA models as I'm debating whether to go for the normal edition of the superclocked. I've heard the superclocked edition runs quite hot with the clocks running higher...

I wouldn't be too impressed having anything run at that temperature in my PC, regardless of it is was still working, it'd be new cooler time for me.

and i thaught my stock cooled, lowerd fan speed from stock for silence, higher voltaged overclocked @ 900/1000 HD2900XT was hot at a full load of 67

If anyone who owns an 8800GT and has RivaTuner Installed can you please download this demo below and run it for 600000 ms (10 mins) and post a screenie* of Riva's hardware monitoring page (like the picture in the first post).

*ALT + Printscreen to grab just the active window rather than the whole desktop.

I don't think it matter was resolution etc you run it at but just make sure to run it for 10 minutes by adding an extra zero into the Max Time field.

Thanks in advance!

Why would you get the pre-clocked version? You're an accomplished overclocker, do it yourself! :)

I got the BFG pre-OC one, the temps initially were reaching 98c. This dropped a bit after reinstalling windows for some reason (mid 80's in crysis demo). I've been and fetched a Zalman VF900 today and it's dropped the temp in crysis to 62c. I was stunned and really worried about the temperatures these things can reach, very pleased now with the zalman.
On a sidenote I didn't bother using the ramsinks, i've heard they're fine without can anyone confirm this?

Dubious. I;ve seen lots on the internet about overclocked ramchips failing (due to heat I guess?????) and the original cooler does cool them so risky to not put some form of cooling on them IMO

Thanks for the reply Greebo, the ram chips on this aren't actually clocked they're standard 1800mhz speed, only the core is pre clocked to 625 and probably the shaders. I don't plan on clocking anything as it's fantastic at stock, just a bit worried about doing the right thing by the ram. Any more input would be great if anyone can shed more light on things?

I just think that even non overclocked, Nvidia decided to put a cooler on them so risky if you don't.

Warranty will be void if they did fry.
