Who's got the Hottest 8800GT

Hi,

Love to see how you chaps are mounting the 120mm fans, anyone care to post some images of the 120mm mounted? I am guessing its using the Zalman FB123 fan bracket.. still love to some pics.

Thx,
ManC

Mine is just resting on top of the cooler (reverse ATX, so my motherboard is upside down), when I get a different fan I will mount it with cable ties.

In Sega Rally mine got to 89 degrees load, I turned the fan speed to 60% (still not as loud as a 2900XT in games), and my temps went down to about 73-74 load and this was at a 680/1750/1000 overclock.

Nothing wrong with the stock fan, you just need to use rivatuner to change fan speeds at certain temps, mine hits 50% at 60c and never goes above 75c and is still reasonably quite, stock fan speeds are probably still only doing 30% at 80c.
Well I guess the single slot cooler must be to attract SLI buyers, because otherwise I can't see who would prefer a weak 1 slot cooler over a good dual slot cooler, unless it's just about the price. The cooler on the GTS was excellent - the first cooler I haven't needed to replace in a long time - it gave awesome overclocking headroom and the low temps I'm sure would have extended the lives of the cards, plus it was extremely quiet. I just wouldn't be comfortable with a card hitting 95 degrees.

i heard the 8800gt was 200 watts under load? I'm waiting to see what the 3800 series does in power/performance/price and decide then. I know the x1950 is low thats one of the reasons i got it.
Actually the 8800 GT is pretty good on power consumption using about 90W load / 48W idle, which is plenty less than a GTS 640mb for instance. It's more than your X1950 Pro of course (which uses 66W load / 24W idle) but they're not in the same performance bracket.

Originally I didn't Steve no but I noticed the memchips were getting really hot so i've put them on now. Just don't think the thermal tape is very good so i'm tempted to buy some more for a couple of the ramsinks. The mosfets are just fairly warm to the touch so I think they should be ok with nothing on them.

I find the cooler on the GT quite ample.
Doesnt get any hotter then my GTS used to & i'm running it at 700/1700/2000...
70c max after an hour of crysis

I see, suppose you could push the cable ties through the gabs in the heatsink, this way it would be secure...

OK cheers I was worried that most 3rd party coolers don't provide heat sinks for the mosfets on 8800GT but looks like the they aren't so hot afterall :)

So what do i do to help with my temperatures, they get all the way to 94 degrees unfortunately? I enabled a plugin in Rivatuner and as far as i can see my fan cycle never gets above 40%, that seems incredibly stupid?

I wouldn't worry about the mosfets, they're cool enough to touch even during gaming. Quite hot don't get me wrong but not scorching. The vram chips are another matter though, reasonably cool in windows but once you start a game you can't touch them.

Yeah actually just enabled that and just shot it straight to 60%, which decrased it by 10 degrees plus made another 10mhz on the core completely stable, proving me wrong that it was voltage limited, which is great :D

Think i'll just set it up so that it runs extremely loud in Performance 3d, i'll be listening to game sounds in those cases anyway. Gonna ditch this card though, this is definitely annoying, and i've promised to give it to my brother anyhow, will be a new 8800GTS for me :)

Actually, can any of you reccomend any aftermarket coolers, gonna have a play with this and see how it goes etc, actually running with the side of the case off right now, which has never been a problem, but of course is now with this noise.

Zalman VF-700
Zalman VF-900
Accelero S1
Thermaltake ND1 - Requires some modding of either card or cooler due to the fan connector getting in the way.

Zerotherm Hurricane
Zerotherm GX710
Zerotherm GX700
Zerotherm GX810
Zerotherm GX815

Personal preference in the Accelero S1, runs the card fine passively.

Passively even? That's extremely interesting, i'll think about it, and look at that, sounds like a great soultion :) Not sure if i dare lose the warranty though.

I'm worried, been playing Pes2008 for about an hour and rivatuner is showing 89dc! Mine is BFG OC version. I've not overclocked it and am new to rivatuner, how do i increase the fan speed?
