Why are Apple computers used in Adds?

wow threads about any apple products really are not received well outside of the relevant forum sub section are they?

I believe the question asked was why are they used a lot in tv ads, which is somewhat being slowly answered.

NOT

What is better, Mac or PC?

Just shows how insecure all of you "I only use a PC" users are, if you have to derail every thread of the same nature into the same boring argument.

insecure?

:D

Takes two sides to argue, doesn't it? And by labelling "you PC users", aren't you effectively conforming to the very thing you choose to berate in your loosly constructed argument?

Ironing.

Well yes why else would you be posting here?

Dampcat you misread it says "I only use a PC", not "you PC users"

otherwise it would be severe ironing, what with me being a PC user as well.

lol ok you buy that and we will bench it against this 2 x 2.8ghz Quad core Intel Xeon machine I am using at work, plus thats a Crap looking case and only dual core, if I could have a PC in a mac case I would, they look great and the engineering of the internals are great, HD slots, cooling is silent.

I use both, Have a great PC at home for gaming, but For work I look after 50+ Macs, Reason I dont have on personally is they are expensive.

http://store.apple.com/uk_smb_67752/configure/MB535B/A?mco=NDE4NDI0Mw

if you want 2 x 2.93ghz ones whihc is close to what you have got. It is £4500+

thats also with just a gt 120 gfx card....:/

even the base single quad core model with 3gb of ram is £2000

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-065-OE&groupid=43&catid=1270&subcat= - better cpu, more ram, better gfx, more hard drive space for less than half the cost...

i know macs can be good performers and good for media production e.t.c. but they are just insanely overpriced in my opinion.

Macs are not designed for games though, so any decent graphics card is fine for most image and graphics work.

I have the previous mac Pro generation but yea its still stupidly expensive.
Yes you could build the same spec pc for prob £1000+ less but to the users here its the simplicity of the OS, and without doing something illegal we have to run it on macs, we have open plan offices so quiet Machines is a must, My Machine is an extreme as I just specced out a beast as you would :p but its still £2k I think for a standard Machine.

That's the thing that gets me, they're not good performers when put up against a PC of an equal pricetag.

So in my mind that means that the only real reason to buy one would be:

a) You think the packaging is more important than what's inside.
b) You have an irrational hate for Windows, but can't be bothered with Linux.
c) The nice chap in the shop said it was good and you believed him.
d) You simply like OSX as your Operating System of choice.

D I can understand, as its pretty much how you interface with the computer, if OSX rocks your world by all means go for it. But if you couldn't really care less if you were given a Windows machine or a Mac, I cant see why you would choose the Apple other than superficial reasons.

I like the overinflated price that Apple command for a lot of their products, it help keeps out the riff-raff :p, seriously though, I do think that keeping the price high on a lot of the Apple products works well as it creates an air of desirability for the products, there's just something about them, you have a bunch of people in a room with high spec PC laptops and then someone comes in with a MacBook Pro heads turn (or rather people try and scope it without being to obvious), they are gorgeous, the first Apple product I ever bought was an Apple iPod 3rd Gen, I was amazed by it, from the quality of the packaging to the quality of the product itself, I'd never held a music player that felt so well engineered.

so in other words they are targetting stupid people?

It's because in the mind of the average marketing person or the people who think up these ads a PC is a boring box. The same people probably have iPods and iPhones for no other reason than they look cool and everyone has one.

There are plenty of PC systems and gadgets that do what Apple products do and more and actually look nicer + cost less.

becuase they look good??

I have a PC and can tell you that my PC (inc KB and mouse) looks better than any standard Apple PC, ok a PowerMac G4/G5 case is going to be hard to beat but it's damn close.

And I know my PC cost a quarter of a G4....

We've also got 2 Mac G5s at work with those micro slim keyboards. One of systems runs 16 cores too and looks a beast but that does not stop it from being used only for CAD conversions and nothing more tucked under the desk where the lack of wires is not seen by anyone. So much more style and looks :D

<sigh>

This forum never ****ing changes.

They are targeting people that want a product that is functional, 'stylish', and well engineered, take the classic 3rd Gen Ipod for example, I paid £349 for that when it came out, people at the time said I was crazy, but to this day never has another MP3 player graced my hand that was as well engineered and beautiful as that classic 3rd Gen was, some people like-myself appreciate quality and style in a product and will pay over the odds for that becuase we can.

hell, you could probably have three equally performing machines to that one mac.

Not really, you couldn't. It's a seasonal thing. Previous generation Mac Pro or example was the best bang for buck in industry. Before they were discontinued £1500 would buy you two quads - 8 physical cores, 12Gb or ram and EFI patched Ati 4870. No Dell, IBM or any other Acer could match those prices. Tables turned when new lineup arrived, but you can still walk into any Mac Store, speak to business manager and walk away with 16 core Nahalem for just over 2 grand. Even just to install windows on it. Go and try finding XPS workstation that can match it.
